New Year's Resolutions v. 2013
« on: December 03, 2012, 12:39:00 PM »
Thought I'd get this thread started. Less than a month away, the year will end. But another will begin. If today was your last day, and tomorrow was too late, would you wave goodbye to yesterday?

From Wikipedia:
Quote
A 2007 study by Richard Wisemen from the University of Bristol]involving 3,000 people showed that 88% of those who set New Year resolutions fail, despite the fact that 52% of the study's participants were confident of success at the beginning. Men achieved their goal 22% more often when they engaged in goal setting, (a system where small measurable goals are being set; such as, a pound a week, instead of saying "lose weight"), while women succeeded 10% more when they made their goals public and got support from their friends. Quoting Frank Ra (author of the new year's resolution book "A course in happiness" : "Resolutions are more sustainable when shared, both in terms of with whom you share the benefits of your resolution, and with whom you share the path of maintaining your resolution. Peer-support makes a difference in success rate with new year's resolutions".
Let's get this started, people!

Three goals for me:
-run a marathon (achieved by building running stamina weekly)
-less time on electronics (including DTF... :( ) (achieved by limiting time to four hours max per week)
-be more generous (achieved by doing 1 nice, out-of-the-way thing for a person once a week)
-cut junk food (....maybe)
« Last Edit: December 04, 2012, 07:34:29 PM by Ħ »
"All great works are prepared in the desert, including the redemption of the world. The precursors, the followers, the Master Himself, all obeyed or have to obey one and the same law. Prophets, apostles, preachers, martyrs, pioneers of knowledge, inspired artists in every art, ordinary men and the Man-God, all pay tribute to loneliness, to the life of silence, to the night." - A. G. Sertillanges

I'm part of the 22%? Yay!

Continue losing weight, that is all.

Same resolution as this year: 1920 x 1080.

No but seriously, I'll try to think more about my health and exercise more. God knows I need it.

To live in accordance with the demands and opportunities of the new baktun, including cultivation of the imagination, using/appreciating more of what I already have, achieving a more yang orientation (without a concomitant increase in anxiety) and continuing to participate in hobbies centered around cooking, health, white magic and herbalism.

I try to avoid New Year's Resolutions. Goal setting always stresses me out, and I find myself happier when I just live day to day, trying to be the best that I can be each day.

Now, with that being said, I would like to...

- Continue to stay in good shape.
- Be more open and carefree. Take myself, and others, a little less seriously.
- Be kind and generous to others, and myself.
- Find new music (this is almost too easy to list, but still something I'd like to do).
- Be honest with myself and others whenever possible.

I just don't understand what they were trying to achieve with any part of the song, either individually or as a whole. You know what? It's the Platypus of Dream Theater songs. That bill doesn't go with that tail, or that strange little furry body, or those webbed feet, and oh god why does it have venomous spurs!? And then you find out it lays eggs too. The difference is that the Platypus is somehow functional despite being a crazy mishmash or leftover animal pieces

Kicking SUGAR- It is my nemesis.

Jay may be Pre Pre Diabetic, But I'm Pre- losing that extra pre was enough of a kick in the butt to cut sugars out of my beverages and my kick daily baby bottle pop. It's tough though, there is sugar in nearly every sauce I grab, and any juice or fruit beverage/snack :( I suppose it'd be a lot tougher if I had diabetes!

Increase my gym time and decrease the sugars and carbs.

In all seriousness my resolution will be to get myself stable financially  and -hopefully- start going to school, even if it is one or two classes a semester

I don't normally go for them, but this year I have two goals:

1. Reduce my body fat percentage by a significant degree, and tone up in general.
2. Be fluent in conversational swedish by the end of the year.

Here's mine:

- I'd like to lose 10-15 lbs before the start of the 2013 collegiate cycling season in February.
- My goal is to finish in the top 25 individually in every race and 1st in the team standings.
- Improve my GPA next semester by at least 0.25 points and then again for fall semester.
- Meet more new people
- Eat healthier, drink less soda, etc.
Where would YOU be without prog?!
I'd be standing somewhere with dignity, respect, and bitches.

I resolved some 20 years ago not to make New Years Resolutions.  It's been the easiest resolution to keep.
