Watched symbol
« on: November 30, 2012, 01:27:32 AM »
I just suddenly noticed that i have a "watched" symbol below my avatar! Does everyone see that? How long will that last?

I got a warning last week for posting a meme with a subtle reference to a certain video. I honestly never thought that far and actually never seen the particular video (not that it matters anyway) but still.

Now with that said i take full responsibility for what i did even though it was not my intention. I just wanna say that i never write/post any mean, offensive or hateful posts because well...i'm a nice guy. You can just look at my posts if you don't believe me.

*Sigh i just had to get that out because......i love this forum! DTF  :heart

I've had one for a long time for "race baiting" or something which I never did.

It's pretty much Bosks version of putting a tramp stamp on his favorites. At least that's what I tell myself.

Oh, they don't go away either.

You won't be getting rid of it, I'm afraid. Mine's been there for a while (strangely enough, for the same offense that you comitted as well) and, barring another forum crash (please not), I doubt that it will ever go away.

if you had one, it would be in the bottom left corner under your avatar, under the little icons for view profile / email / PM.

There really should be a limit on how long a warning stays there (like a year or something). A lot of people have warnings for very minor offenses, and it's silly to be stuck with it forever.

And for clarification, if you don't know whether or not you have a watched symbol, you probably don't have one.  I'm pretty sure you get PMed by a mod with an actual warning about why you're 'watched'.

^This.  If the mods can't remember *what* you're being watched for, then they shouldn't be watching you.  But, it's bosk's house and his rules.  Take 'em or leave 'em.

Guys, only you and mods can see the watched symbol, so it's really not a big deal just to have it. The way the newer forum software logs our warning and keeps track of things generates that symbol but the action we take is the same as ever. If you have a minor infraction 2 years ago and have one again now we're not just going to throw the book at you because you're "watched". At the same time if you do something particular stupid you don't just get off the first time if you're not watched. I don't want to say that you can for  ignore the watched symbol, because if nothing else it should serve as a reminder that rules are in place and to be mindful of them while posting, particular in the case of whatever put the symbol there in the first place, but for the most part you really don't have to worry about it.

I have 5% warning but I don't have a watched symbol. :(

So do we get a different percentage based on the "offense"? Because I jumped right to 10% apparently.

It's a comlicated formula.  For example, in your case, there is an automatic "from Australia = +5% penalty" that's built right in.  Wish I could circumvent it, but that's just the way it is.

Actually, I just re-read the coding.  To be more specific, there is a line of code in the program that says:  "from the land where dingos roam = +5% penalty."

I have a lot of work to do.
