Black Sabbath, look I like Rush, but I don't love the band. Yeah they've got some really good songs/albums, but they've never really fully connected.  They just feel like a band from the era that are great, but not amazing like Black Sabbath.  I like/love/worship every album in the 70's Black Sabbath category, but with Rush I like/love some of the albums, but not all of the songs really connect to make amazing albums on some.

BS wrote more memorable historic songs, but Rush wrote better material.

Sabbath

Rush had A Farewell To Kings and 2112 as their best 70's albums.  I'm not a fan of Hemispheres, Caress of Steel is weaksauce, Fly By Night is good and their debut is uneven.  Meanwhile, Sabbath had Paranoid, Master of Reality, Sabbath Bloody Sabbath, and Sabotage.  Sure none of those reach the greatness of AFTK or even 2112, but even the albums I didn't list are good.  Vol. 4 is a good album, the debut is pretty good and even the last two Ozzy albums have some good tracks here and there.

Sabbath wins out for sheer consistency here.

Sabbath all the way. Rush are one of the most overrated bands on this forum to me, I could never get into the properly.

Rush no question. The only really weak album is their debut, and that even isn't that bad. Black Sabbath did have some great albums but also a lot of misses IMO.

For me Rush's best stuff was in the early 80's and Sabbath's best stuff was in the early 70's. Therefore I have to give it to Sabbath.

As much as I love some of the stuff Rush did in the 70s (2112, AFTK, Hemispheres) I think Sabbath had more consistency and more classic stuff.

This is a good one! I'll pick Rush, but 70s Sabbath is very impressive too. As far as Sabbath goes for me, I prefer their 80s material to their 70s.

Well at least of the albums listed in the OP.

I lean towards Rush here.
would have thought the same thing but seeing the OP was TAC i immediately thought Maiden or DT related
Winger Theater Forums........or WTF.  ;D
TAC got a higher score than me in the electronic round? Honestly, can I just drop out now? :lol

70s Rush. I like 70s Sabbath but I like Heaven & Hell and Mob Rules way more than the Ozzy albums. Plus Rush is my favorite band I like AFTK and Hemispheres more than anything Sabbath ever did.

Well that would be The Perfect Element, but Hemispheres was my first Rush album and holds a special place in my heart.

Rush, while I don't yet have the debut or Farewell to Kings, the other four are fantastic albums, even the often loathed Caress of Steel. That album just screams summertime to me.

Rush. Sabbath's first four albums are untouchable, but after that the quality starts to decline, and the last two Ozzy era albums are a bloody mess. Rush, their least albums of the 70s, to me, are the debut, which isn't THAT bad, and Fly By Night, which most bands would kill to have in terms of quality. Rush was more consistent in the 70s.

Rush.  I like both bands, and the 70's was the best for each, but Rush excited me in ways the Black Sabbath did not, if you know what I mean.

I didn't expect Sabbath to get many votes here on this forum.  I prefer Sabbath in this match-up, but that was a pretty strong run of albums from Rush too.  In fact, if you added Moving Pictures to that list it would contain the complete discography of my personal Rush CDs.  They didn't make anything after Moving Pictures that I liked other than the odd track here and there.

Well, I have it on cassette, which I managed to rip to MP3 so it's on my iPod, but I rarely listen to any of it.  "Spirit of Radio" and "Freewill" are just completely burned out, but I have been known to spin "Natural Science" or "Jacob's Ladder" every once in a while.

I listen to Black Sabbath's old stuff far more often.  Especially their first 5 albums
