Political Humor
« on: November 06, 2012, 08:10:08 AM »
It's something I'm sure somebody else here finds amusing and I felt it getting awkward to post links to stuff like that in the middle of a serious discussion on the same topic. The reason I started this thread here is because the funny thread in general discussion is not frequently visited by the same people who hang out here and even those who do frequent the joke thread don't really get to comment or have room to discuss the subject ridiculed. I also thought having this thread here would give the place a dose of lightheartedness.
I could be wrong, maybe posting the political jokes in their respective serious threads helps break the tension or maybe all things humor should remain in the joke thread at general discussion. We'll see how everybody and the forum staff feels about it.
If a joke ignites a serious comment or two on the subject it may be done here but if it turns into a heated discussion then we take it to a new thread or it's pre-existing thread.
This is a thread for political jokes.
Stephen Colbert's take on Fox news coverage of Benghazi, it's hilarious IMO. I saw it yesterday and was the reason I got the idea for this thread since the Benghazi thread was too heated to post humor there heh

Here is a bit from a text conversation I am having right now...

Slight back story. My girlfriend of 15 months and I broke up a while ago. I've been hooking up with this new girl who wants to date. She doesn't understand why I don't want to do anything with her other than fornicate ...

Girl: Okay. So my father is making me register to vote today. I need a smart persons advice. What the fuck do I register as?
Me: That's your choice, but I go with democrat. Registering today won't allow you to vote today btw.
Girl: I don't want to vote lol. I honestly don't give a shit either way. This world will never be at peace so fuck it
Me: That's the worst attitude anyone could have. It's ignorance like that which is one of the root causes of the US' position in the world today.... not to be a dick. Politics is about way more than just peace.
Girl: You're not being a dick. I understand
Girl: Who is Democrat?

She's lucky she has big tits and low self esteem.

hehe I never came across those, it's a curse. They've always been a fascination for me but unfortunately every girl I have ever been with has been smart or at least fully aware and with high self esteem. But your girlfriend turned me on even before you mentioned the big tits heh
I'd also like to one day pull off telling a person that "It's ignorance like that.." and end the sentence with "not to be a dick" without getting called on it :lol

Colbert is a genius. I like the Daily Show better, but as far as satire goes, no one beats Colbert. He might just be the best satirist to ever exist. He's so good, that (at least for a while) Republicans thought he was actually one of them. His roast of Bush at the correspondence dinner is just fucking awesome.

Hmm, best satirist ever...

Voltaire and Swift are clearly up at the top.  There are probably some Greek dudes who were pretty good at it too, but I'm not knowledgeable about them.

More recently?  Colbert and Stewart are probably the best known, but I'd argue Douglas Adams, Chris Morris, and Armando Ianucci stand with or above them.  Trey Parker and Matt Stone were strong for a while but have tailed off.  The Onion is perhaps the best collective work of satire of the modern age.  Lots of options.

I would put Mark Twain on the board as well. The man could satire anything.
Perhaps you should ask bosk to reverse the "e" and "a" in the second half of your user name.

Colbert has always been my favorite, I think he's much better than Stewart and Maher.
Most of my posts here are probably gonna be clips of his show, clips that I would designate and share with you guys, he has that nice feature on his website where you can chop the exact duration clip you wanna share and they'd give you a link for that.

Well it's obviously a matter of opinion, I just think what Colbert does, on a weekly basis (and largely on his own), puts him way up there. He fooled a lot of conservatives, for a long time, into thinking he was a conservative.

I don't think Stewart is a satirist, but maybe I'm confused on what satire means?

And I thought Satire didn't come into existence until Swift told us to eat babies. Some reason, that's what I remember from my English high school class when we read it.

I cant see the video, but I can only assume that one thing being equally funny would be equally ignorant Romney suppoters....which I can safely say there are an equal number of.
People that ignorant has zero to do with political affiliation, and everything to do with the willful ignorance of people in the world.

Didnt say it was less funny.

Actually, I would say it isn't funny at all.  It is tragic, sad, and embarrasing that we have people so woefully ignorant about their country and government....from both parties.

What is sad and tragic is the fact dumb ignorant fools like these are molding and shaping our futures by voting based on nothing more than the color of someones skin. Sad and tragic indeed. :tick2: Of coarse it also goes both ways. Many who voted for Romney did it for warped and twisted reasons.

I think Obama is probably an awesome father who loves his 2 daughters very much. I don't think he wants to legalize weed.

I hardly see how being an awesome father who loves his 2 daughters has anything to do with weed legalization. Obama smoked a ton in his early days, and if it harmed him in any way, then it's hard to see how. I'd personally say him brewing his own beer is worse than if he was growing a plant in his garden and enjoying a toke at the end of a long day of work. Not that I think beer or alcohol is inherently bad.

One of those time I hope the conspiracy theory that Obama will unleash himself in his 2nd term is true.

I think it does. I don't think that is something he would want his kids to smoke nor would he want to legalize pot as an example to his daughters. It's my opinion anyhow.

Or Sweden, which is very economically competitive, healthy, very happy, and very socialist.

Or Canada, which is way more socialist than us, and yet is doing far better than us. They're currency is actually worth more than ours, now.
