Customizing my OLP John Petrucci Signature
« on: October 30, 2012, 12:47:25 AM »
I've had this OLP John Petrucci signature (that cheap replica of MM)  for many years now.
It was pretty cheap (about 700$) guitar but It's still pretty nice guitar to play.

So, I had this crazy idea to try customize it a little bit :p
I was thinking about the paintjob in JPM100 P2.

So i started working on it last night.
I went to this shop which manufactures advertisements for different kind of companies and bought these colour"stickers"  (sorry for my english :D)
These stickers are meant to be used on like shop windows and are pretty tough (They are supposed to endure different kind of weather and such).
I had to change those patterns a little bit cos the guitars shape isn't the same.

Today i'm gonna try to make the last two patterns and stick them on guitar :p

I was thinking that this must be the most FAKEST petrucci guitar ever ;

It's not Petrucci model...                                CHECK!
It's not Music Man...                                       CHECK!
It's not ibanez...                                            CHECK!
It doesn't have real "Picasso" paintjob...      CHECK!
:D

If it doesn't turn out fine, i can always take those stickers away.
So what do you guys think?

Heres a couple of pics;

here are the pics I promised :P
I tried to make the colour pattern look like jpm100 p2, but i guess im not that good choosing colours after all :D
It's not perfect but in my opinion it looks kinda cool! I guess I'll keep those "stickers" on for now.
As I said earlier,  I had to change those patterns a little bit to fit on that guitar shape.

I wish i'd see Petrucci play Music Man like this someday :)

My Charvel Fusion Custom wanted to pose with it;

Very tasty.  I'm with you.  Seeing JP play something like that would be fun.

Nice job on taking the overall look and feel of the original and making it work on a Music Man.

As someone with 20 years experience with that sort of thing, I can tell you that's exceptional work.  The gold section following the two contours is an amazing job.  WTG.

I decided to take those stickers off  ;)

I was thinking about trying to customize my Sterling by music man S.U.B Ax3 a little bit

When I'm ready, it should look like ESP ECLIPSE S-III BRILLIANT -MIXEDMEDIA-

I'll post some pics when it is done :P

I recognize that ESP.  You a fan of Sugizo/Luna Sea?
In high school my buddies and I built a Van Der Graaf generator.  You know, to get girls.

I first heard of Sugizo when X JAPAN reunited and got him for guitar.

So this is how it came to be;

It's not perfect, I know :p  But I think it is ok for being the first try.
Took about 5 hours from start to finish. After I took that pic I  finished it by cutting those edges on the aluminum foil .

I'm pretty sure that If I'd try again, it would look much nicer.

Please excuse necroposting, just found this thread the other day and realized there are now two of us!

A buddy of mine who happens to be a luthier gave me this for my birthday long time ago. It's an old OLP (started life as stsndard burgundy) he got fairly inexpensively in the ad somewhere and then he stripped all the hardware, refinished frets and neck, installed Gotoh tuners, mounted Air Norton and Steve's Special, painted it black but eventually we decided to do Picasso graphic thing albeit in a novel color scheme. Just two-tone. Ultimately vibrato unit was swapped as well with Hipshot I believe, I keep mixing Wilkinson and Hipshot most of the time. Plays like a dream. Cheers!
