Which guest singer would you like to see performing with DT?

In my case, I'd love to see Myles Kennedy from Alter Bridge singing a DT song.
What do you think?  :sadpanda:

That guy from King's X
SWEPT AWAY WITH THE TIDE! :D
In all seriousness, this might sound weird but I think it would be pretty neat if Thom Yorke did a song with them.

Sharon den Adel or Amy Lee...
I would love to hear a female lead in a song and some JLB duet with a good female singer.

I'd love to see Anna Ternheim + James LaBrie doing something in the style beneath the surface.

None. They could do some covers and invite people over like Russ Allen/the other guys for Cemetery Gates, but I wouldn't want guest singers on DT's album, because that would mean the song wouldn't be performed live (unless they'd plan on bringing that person out for just one song every night), which would be a shame if it were a good song. And I'd quite dislike a JLB/Sharon/Amy/Whoever duet, because Dream Theater is the type of band that... how do I put this... does things for the sake of doing things. They wouldn't write a song and conclude it would go well as a duet and then add a singer, they'd just write one straight away and I don't think that would turn out too well.

:lol You just made me picture Jordan Rudess doing the Gangnam Style dance. Curse you.... :neverusethis:

Myles Kennedy, Matt Bellamy, and Michael Eriksen joining James and the rest Of Dream Theater for one song would be epic.   You've got Matt, who first got me into high male vocals, Myles, who has a great hard rock tone, along with fantastic range, and Michael, who, to my ears, is a mix of Myles and James Labrie, with a just a touch of fellow Norwegian vocalist Morten Harket of pop legends a-ha.

Imagine it, Blackbird meets the Exogenesis Symphony meets Architect of Fortune meets Metropolis Pt. 1 (four songs you should know (six if you count the symphony as three parts))

Mike Portnoy.

/obligatory

Seriously though, an interesting one would be hearing Tony Harnell give one of the I&W songs a go. He sounds a lot like LaBrie did back in those days.
Yeah, I have no idea what the cakeless person in that analogy is meant to be eating. If he's got some sort of cake substitute, it should really have been worked into the narrative at some point. As it stands, the options are:

  • Hoard a cake just to stare blankly into its doughy edifice.
  • Make futile chewing motions with your mouth while starving to death.

I'd love to see what Dickinson would be like singing something like Learning to Live or Take The Time.
“I think it's really tragic when people get serious about stuff. It's such an absurdity to take anything really seriously ... I make an honest attempt not to take anything seriously: I worked that attitude out about the time I was eighteen, I mean, what does it all mean when you get right down to it, what's the story here? Being alive is so weird.”

He doesn't have anywhere near the range to pull these songs off.

Mikael Akerfeldt.

How about both clean and growl? :)

Mikael's live versions of Repentance & Nightmare are swell if you do not mind the growl style

Specifically, I think a studio recorded album would be cool, not a live performance necessarily

To me, Death growls are the Cayenne pepper of music. In some situations, it takes what was good and makes it better by adding a certain kick that you just can't get any other way. Used incorrectly, however, it's just terrible, ruining the music.

I don't always like Death growls, but when I do, they are layered with clean vocals. It adds extra dimension to the song.

I'd argue EVERYTHING'S like that. You know, everything you can add to music. Any type of vocs at all. Furthermore, there are people who don't listen to any other music but the one containing harsh vocs of any kind.

It's just, people hating on death growls is one of my pet peeves... it just takes some time to get used to AT MOST, rare are the people who have listened to that type of music extensively and still hate the vocals. We could at least try not calling them "cookie monster vocals", or at least put some "-" in there :D

If they played some older DT songs with guests:

Matt Bellamy on Never Enough
Maynard James Keenan on The Great Debate
Chester Bennington on These Walls
James Hetfield on Constant Motion
Bono on I Walk Beside You

:neverusethis:

yeah, I'm THAT clever... but hey, someone had to do it, right?

Seriously, I'd like to hear a duet with some favorite singer of mine with a voice different enough to James' - Tomi Joutsen or Jonas Renkse, for example.
