With 22 out of 29 votes, Trapped Under Ice is eliminated.

1.
2.
3.
4.
5.
6.
7. Trapped Under Ice
8. Escape

This is where it's going to get hard for me. My vote goes to Fight Fire With Fire.

Wow this is much harder than I thought it would be.

But yea, I guess Fight Fire with Fire.

Though Ktulu will probably be voted out.

For Whom the Bell Tolls. I love Fight Fire With Fire, personally, whereas FWTBT just isn't very exciting or anything.

I think one problem we are going to find for the this album, MoP and TBA is that Metallica fans have heard some of these songs SO many times either on the CD, the radio, live, whatever that they get sick of them and end up voting them off. Usually it's not a conscious choice but the more overplayed songs might get booted.

True, that may actually be the case for FWTBT for me, because I can't really name any part of the song that I don't like, so it might actually be that.

Still, I don't really see that as a problem: if a song annoys me, I vote it off, because I enjoy it less. Isn't that kind of the point of these survivors anyway?

Yeah, I guess that's part of the point, but another part of the point of these survivors is that the votes know the albums well enough^^
Anyway, FWTBT is one of my favourite Metallica songs.

Kthulu...

It's OK, but probably my least favorite Metallica instrumental.  Given the choice between Kthulu and Orion, I go with Orion every time.

MoP is basically RtL part two.   But I've always thought that maybe Side 2 of RtL woud've been more interesting if it had been structured like Side 2 of MoP.

First the epic - Creeping Death
Then the medium jam - Escape
Then the instrumental - Call of Kthulu
End on the thrasher - Trapped Under Ice

Probably best left as is though....Kthulu has more of an 'end of album' feel to it than TUI does.

I overplayed it I suppose. Ktulu could go as well. The rest is pure gold and it's a shame Trapped Under Ice is out.

For Whom the Bell Tolls. I used to love it, still like it a lot, but this album is packed with excellence and I got tired of it since I've had several teaching sessions with friends in the past where I was teaching them either guitar or bass and used this as the beginner song and ended up hearing it 10-20 times in a row during those sessions.

Fight Fire With Fire

Though Creeping Death could go and I'd be happy.

I hope Ktulu stays. That's, IMO, their best instrumental.

Yea I don't get the Ktulu hate. I know it's not thrashy but it's one of their best melodic songs. Sad that it'll probably go this round.

Why are people saving songs? The rule is that you're supposed to vote for the song you like least.

I personally don't do it, but perhaps if someone knows their least favorite song has no chance of getting voted off, but a song they really like IS being voted off, they'll try to save it so that the songs they like last longer.

But it's ridiculously unfair since other folks have voted honestly. Votes like that are basically saying "I want this survivor to lean more toward my own personal taste rather then serving its intended purpose of reflecting ALL of the voters' opinions."

Just like in the TV Survivor...alliances are formed.

And I agree with saying that NO ONE wants their vote to be completely wasted.    In the SFAM survivor....my least favorite song is Home.  But what's the point of being the only human being in the entire poll to vote for Home 10 times before people start to jump on board?   It's pointless and futile.   So you form alliances (*just like in Survivor*) to save the songs you like.

Because it clearly says to vote for your least favorite. If you specifically ignore the rules to selfishly serve your own purposes, you don't deserve to vote. Also, the purpose of these things is to get an accurate account of all of our opinions and some voters are shitting on that by compromising the results because they're too thin-skinned to take honest results as they come and implying that their opinions are more important than those who are voting honestly. Really, think about that for a minute. A group of a few dozen people are following this thing and the majority are voting honestly yet some folks are so concerned about the results differing from their opinions that they're gonna resort to tampering? If you wanna play that flimsy "wasted vote" angle, how aren't the votes of those who voted early in the round not wasted if a song they like ends up going out earlier because they weren't able to save it because they "wasted" their votes by voting honestly?

The comparison to the TV show is pretty unrealistic too since the people on there are jockeying for life-changing money so it's an unfortunate, yet expected, byproduct of our corrupt society that backroom deals and betrayals will occur in order to provide a means to a lucrative end. The vast majority of these survivors aren't even archived or have the data from them saved anyway so I just can't see what possible motivation there is for folks to feel compelled to "beat the system" despite there being literally nothing to gain by doing so and something to lose (actual data proving which songs are liked best.)

It's called a "Survivor" not a "Vote for your least favorite song thread". I know how the "rule" is written, but bottom line, your priority should be keeping your favorite song alive.

Just playing the devil's advocate. I'm against the survivor format overall, which is why I gave up running them.

Sorry dude, a rule's a rule and this one is far from being grey area.

We have a difference of opinion, and I respect yours.

But I will take brief issue that the comment that "The comparison to the TV show is pretty unrealistic..."   I know we're not talking about life and death here...but let's face it.   The threads are *NAMED AFTER THE SHOW*....this is not a vague, abstract stretch.   This is a direct correlation.   It is directly named after the show, so it's to be expected that the themes will be imitated.
