Honestly, it's just kind of sad at this point. Like, that is one of the gags they do in old movies/tv shows that you say "that never ACTUALLY happens."

We're living in a Mel Brooks movie? Is that it? I was taking it more for The Twilight Zone than History of the World, Part 1 lol

Wait, that's real?

Not even his own staff give enough shits about his image anymore to tell him about this?  I mean, there's pretty much nothing left he can do to make himself more of an international ass-clown, but he still continues to surprise me every damned day.

I'm trying to figure out what it's doing right after it lays each piece of track.  Like it aligning itself to the engine for a second to check... something?

It switches directions once after laying the piece and again after picking it up to align the piece properly. After that, I think it just makes way for the train and keeps moving in a semicircular pattern to clear the train and pick the next piece. It moves in roughly a D shape.

It looks like it's verifying that the train made it on to the next track, before continuing the routine.

Looks to me like it hovers over the train and maybe detects the yellow center and once does it knows it can go grab the other piece where it follows along the path of tracks.  Im more curious of how it then changes course and cuts across the circle to lay the next piece down.  T

It might be simpler than all of that. It might just be programmed to begin each movement from the next sequential base point, of which there are 8. Report to point 1, move 100° and grab a piece, drop it 180° away, report to point 2, continue the sequence.

Man, if I had a press like that and the wherewithal to use it to make Youtube videos, that's about 400,000th on the list of things I'd do with it. Fuck, I can think of at least 4 things involving toothpaste that would be more entertaining than that one.

You never seen those videos? They have whole channels of just crushing weird stuff with that thing. Not my thing, but I can assure you they do weird stuff with it.

I just don't understand what they were trying to achieve with any part of the song, either individually or as a whole. You know what? It's the Platypus of Dream Theater songs. That bill doesn't go with that tail, or that strange little furry body, or those webbed feet, and oh god why does it have venomous spurs!? And then you find out it lays eggs too. The difference is that the Platypus is somehow functional despite being a crazy mishmash or leftover animal pieces

Holy shit!  Maybe the crossing gates were malfunctioning because of the weather?  That seems unlikely, though.

Post from reddit:

Quote
From The Utah Transit Authority:

UTA investigator Dave Goeres told FOX 13 the sensor that normally detects when a train is passing and activates those safety features had been blocked by weather conditions. UTA has a protection system that causes the crossing arms to drop in such a situation, in order to prevent any accidents.

But a UTA employee who responded to the scene to investigate the sensor allegedly bypassed the protection system, against the company's Standard Operating Procedures, which made the road/train intersection vulnerable to accidents.

“We have determined that the gates were raised by a UTA employee who responded to the scene, and the accident was caused by human error. The investigation verified that the signal system functioned properly, and went into a safe, down and active mode, as it’s programmed to do,” said UTA Chief Safety and Security Officer Dave Goeres in a statement sent to FOX 13.

The statement goes on to explain that the company's standard procedures state that the protection system is to be in place and verified with operators prior to getting authorization to raise the gates, but this did not occur in the January 21 incident.

One employee is having a bad day at work. Luckily it only seem to hit the trailer from what I can see. The car in the back had a lucky day.

I learned in driving school to look left and right before crossing a traintrack and then hit the pedal, I try to do that every time I cross a track.

Yeah, when I saw that it was FedEx, my first thought was "Some people aren't getting their gifts on time."  Sure, they're insured, most can easily be replaced, but there will be delays.

But my second thought was "What the fuck?  Why weren't the gates down?"  They were down, and some idiot raised them back up and left them that way!?
