I understand it's not all that uncommon in Japan. Not only does it keep you from getting caught from behind, it's probably the catcher's doing in the first place.

Awesome!

I know it's sexist -- you can sue me later -- but "Why not toss one of the kids up there to grab it?" is not something that would occur to most moms.  But dads do what's necessary to get the job done.  Men are problem-solvers.

I can almost here the boy on the left shouting: "Dad, now it's my turn!"

And yeah, my wife would kill me if I did something like that.

Ok, phew.... machines aren't taking over the world yet.  Skynet is still a few years (months?) off yet.

It's curious how our mind is wired. I see that humanoid form and I start feeling sorry for him, when it's really a "it" and all that's gone wrong is a few (million) lines of code. Those stutter steps don't help, they seem so humanly awkward.

After he loses the package he's standing there like he's thinking "ah, fuck this shit" and then he decides to go back and just fall over.

And during my studies at university I sometimes worked at a warehouse. Some of my "colleagues" weren't much better than that robot.  ;D

I think that's what makes it so easy to empathize with the robot.  Its movements are so "human" and so much like those of a drunk person that your brain forgets that it's a machine and instead just sees someone having a bad day at work, too drunk or hungover to function but apparently having no choice in the matter.

I think this is why I love robot fail videos like this.  The way they move is so human like and then the fall is also so human like that it's hilarious.

If I ever wind up programming robots, my number one priority will be to make sure they can scream in pain and use at least 4 swear words for situations like that. Ideally like my grandfather who'd curse under his breath in one long stream, Muttley style. GoddamnmotherfuckingsonofabitchpieceofshitbastardwhyIoughtta....

I once knew a guy in highschool who would give you 20DM (which was serious money in those days) if you kicked him in the nuts. Of course he was quickly taken out of school.
