You know what to do.

Just realized that this album won in a poll for best prog album by Rolling Stone... cool, but it makes no sense, Rolling Stone hates prog...
I don’t know what to put here anymore

This is going to be one of those survivors where it is *completely pointless* for me to vote for my least favorite song.  (which, btw is "HOME")

So I'll just be voting to save my favorites.  (Beyond This Life, Fatal Tragedy)

I suppose it's safe to start with Regression.   Although I think One Last Time should be in the running as well.

Through My Words and Regression have to go out of the way, before I can launch an attack on the Dance of Eternity.

Through Her Eyes is the only song I wouldn't miss if it didn't make the album, so my vote goes to that.

They're all so good that I'm not voting. I can't believe the votes for Regression. Is it because it's one of the shortest? I think it's a great intro to SFAM.
"All great works are prepared in the desert, including the redemption of the world. The precursors, the followers, the Master Himself, all obeyed or have to obey one and the same law. Prophets, apostles, preachers, martyrs, pioneers of knowledge, inspired artists in every art, ordinary men and the Man-God, all pay tribute to loneliness, to the life of silence, to the night." - A. I imagine because people think it's the least amazing.

I didn't vote for it myself, but it's not brilliant in the same way as a song like Fatal Tragedy, The Spirit Carries On or Finally Free is. Can't hope to compete, realistically. I can understand voting it out first. Well, okay, not before Through My Words, I don't have a clue why anyone's voting it off before TMW, but... you get the gist!

That said, I think it enriches the album in a way that a song like Through Her Eyes doesn't. Take THE out and, while it's a perfectly pleasant song, I might not even notice. Take Regression out and the whole album's weaker for it. So I do take your point.

After BTL and FT, THE is a great relaxing song that prepares you for Home. But on it's own, I agree it's not as great as the others.

Regression.

This is going to be a tough album for me.

I couldn't agree more.  I view the album as one long story each song with a key role and I've always listened to it that way.  I will have to relisten and try to evaluate each track as a stand alone.  For the first round I will have to go with Regression only because it is so short.

If I listen to SFAM in full, I don't skip TMW. However, it feels like the least necessary song on the album - the piano outro in SDV could go straight into Fatal Tragedy. I know it's lyrically important as part of the story but musically it's just a filler track - Regression serves as an introduction and I wouldn't erase it from the tracklist.
