I hate moving
« on: August 04, 2012, 05:15:25 PM »
It fucking sucks.  I'm essentially moving a fully furnished 3 bedroom house by myself, and I'll be completely on my own unpacking and trying to cram it into a two bedroom house.  Fuck me and my materialistic way of life.

/rant , for now.

Moving is God's way of telling you you have too much crap. Fucking hate moving with a passion. You're in good company bro.

FINALLY! Someone gets it!

Movement's for chumps. I wash myself with a rag on a stick.

Yeah... moving can be very stressful, annoying, and difficult. Hope it goes as smoothly as possible!

Moving is pretty much the worst thing in the world.

I will never move again without hiring movers.  I did it the last time with movers, best $800 ever spent.

Moving is a great time to clear out the excess stuff. Other than that, it's basically just a huge pain in the ass.

Moving sucks, but it's even worse now that I have to move all of my wife's shit too.  In fact, in retrospect, moving by myself was always a piece of cake because I never had very much stuff.  I wanted to blow my brains out after moving us last month, out of a third floor apartment in 100 degree heat; I will probably wuss out and hire movers next time.

Moving sucks but I enjoy being able to tighten up my belongings as much as possible since it really helps me reorganize shit so it's grouped in more sensible bunches plus I always get rid of a bunch of shit I no longer need.

Protip: Get banana boxes from your grocers produce section. Just call 'em a good 3 days before you'll need 'em. They're huge, way sturdier than almost any other boxes out there, and it's much quicker and easier to move by having fewer boxes to move (thanks to their large size) coupled with the fact that it eliminates having dozens of differently-sized boxes.

I guess it depends on how old you are.  The bigger the boxes, the more I hurt after the move.  I'd prefer more smaller managable boxes to big heavy ones.  Like I mentioned earlier though, fuck it, I'll pay the movers.  It's well worth saving my sanity and not tweaking my old ass body... :lol

Didn't realize I had 17 years on you. I'm still young/poor enough to have the attitude of "Fuck it! Ya can't be sore for more than 3 days, right?" so I'm just used to packing my shit up all in just 2 or 3 days and bribing my friends with beer and Popeye's chicken. Popeye's chicken is godly btw.

My last two moves were about a half mile and a quarter mile respectively.  I've also moved into bigger places each time.  Shitty work, but manageable.  I also sign leases that expire in Spring or Fall when I'm getting near the end of my stay.

What sucks is the long distance move.  Fitting everything you own into a U-Haul truck and having to unload it away from friends and family is the worst.

Yeah, Long distance moves are a whole different beast.  Seriously Floyd, 17 years ago I would have been fine doing it all by myself too, or bribing my compadres ;)

Replying from my phone, please forgive spelling and grammar.

@Splent - I'm moving to Hartsville, SC.

@black_floyd - I use apple boxes.  Best boxes ever.  Sturdy as hell, but they only get stupid heavy when loaded with dense stuff, like my library or hot sauce collection (bubble wrapped of course).

I wanted to hire movers, but the estimate was out of my price range.  I'm getting partially reimbursed, but I still have to front the bill.  I went with PODS, which is a great compromise.  I didn't want to tow my car, and this way I don't have to.  I will be living a spartan life for a week while I await delivery of my POD, so I'll probably just hang out at my new office a lot since I'll have no furniture other than my air mattress for a week.  The nice thing about PODS is I can unload at my own pace.  Don't have to do it all in one day, so if it's raining or something I can put it off.

My feet and back are so sore and this was a huge wake up call for me to get serious about fitness again.  I'll be able to walk to work, so I think I'll combine that with a morning walk/jog.

Still got some more packing tomorrow, and of course I just went from dead tired to wide awake.  Fuck you body, I'm going to own your ass soon enough.

I was in this situation last year.  Moved out of a shitty apartment into a more modern, but much smaller space.  That's when having hefty record and DVD collections can be a bitch.  Quite a bunch of my collection is now in storage while my the ones I seem to hold much nearer and dearer get to stay in the shelves at my living room.  Oh, and clothes...lots of clothes had to go.

$1400 for me, and agree that is was the best money ever spent. Never on my own again. Especially since that was 11 years (with 2 toddlers at the time) ago. I wouldn't even consider moving any other way.

Let's also not feel TOO bad for the good Doctor... He's coming off 8 weeks paid vacation as I recall.
I'm actually disappointed he's not Kim Jong-Il

Yep, my concern level just went to zip, especially considering I'm on day 40 of 45 at work.
