While I LOVE Gene Wilder as Wonka, I picked Johnny Depp as I believe that Roald Dahl would have liked how Depp portrayed his character better.

Not just the boat ride...throughout the entire film, he seems to be teetering on the edge of insanity. He comes across as a ticking time bomb that could explode at any moment.
