Ok, so I’m going to take advantage of splent running the DT Survivor, and resurrect the Favorite DT Moment Survivor I ran back in 2009. It’s pretty easy to pick out your favorite song on an album in DT’s catalog, but picking out your favorite individual moment in DT’s catalog is a little more taxing. So, here’s the schtick.
Categories are as follows:
JLB Studio note
Studio Guitar Solo
JLB Live note
Live Guitar Solo
JLB Studio Stanza (new category; the last few albums, JLB has had more stellar output from a full stanza or phrasing, rather than a single note/scream)
Keyboard Solo
Bass Lick
Heavy Riff
Light Riff
Other Riff
Instrumental Wankery – caveat here, it has to be a minimum of 3 minutes, and not an instrumental song, as those are wankfest’s all to themselves
Unison – bear in mind that if a great unison is covered in an instrumental section, it may not show up here
Now, before anyone gets all up in arms about there being a lack of drums or recognition to MP’s contributions, I didn’t have a drum category originally. There were just too many to chose from. When I first did this, some of the categories had over 20 different ‘moments’ to chose from. As I started to keep track of the great drumming moments, as I recall I was at about 20 by the time I got to SDOIT alone, so I gave up on that purely from a quantitative standpoint.
This time around, I’m just going to go with the Top 10 from the last time I did this, and add in the contributions from BSCL and ADTOE... but only the REALLY worthy ones. For instance, I’m not going to include the instrumental section in the middle of ANTR, as really... that has no hope of being a contender. The guitar solo outro from TBOT, now that’s gonna be a contender.
Feel free to bitch about the lists, or ask why something is/isn’t included. Hopefully there’s good participation with this. There were about 15-20 regulars participating in this 3 years ago. Maybe with the increase in traffic from the DT Survivor, maybe more will be here. I can't do it as a poll, as there is sometimes just too much information to put in (song, album, timestamp)
I gotta have another run through of BCSL and ADTOE to make sure I got everything to add to the list, and will hopefully get this up and running Monday night.
