Try their other stuff, The Perfect Element is very good, the Road Salt albums are more garage-rock-ish but don't really lose their prog-roots, BE is too difficult to grasp at first listen so I would not recommend that if you want to check the band out. Entropia is their debut, very progresisve and weird, but cool nonetheless. Scarsick is just.. well, bad and One Hour By The Concrete Lake is my personal favourite of theirs though people might frown upon me for that.

The Jester Race  :metal

Not my favorite In Flames but a damn good album and one of the most important melodic death albums ever released imo.

Sure it's not in the top 50 here but I still good to see that album getting praised.

In Flames is a band that I can't swallow. The vocals are too harsh for my tastes... really off-putting

Well, The Jester Race is pretty awesome, but I prefer Clay Man and Whoracle above them.
That said, I haven't really listened to In Flames in quite some years.

Wow...nothing from the past 5 years in your top 50 is a rather bold statement.  I'm glad it won't be oversaturated with recent stuff like some lists were, but none...that's pretty harsh.  Without actually looking at my catalog, I'd venture a guess that there would be at least three if I ranked my top 50 albums.  Anyhow, following, and my lack of activity in this thread will be pretty consistant with my reduced DTF presence over the next month or so.

Still meaning to check out more Magnum and Danger X2.  Not into Death Metal in the slightest, so don't care about that crap at all.  But I have heard some In Flames and it's not your typical Death Metal; but for me it's only decent at best though.

Yeah, Static Impulse! James' best release by far, a major notch above his previous albums. Nice pick.
"All great works are prepared in the desert, including the redemption of the world. The precursors, the followers, the Master Himself, all obeyed or have to obey one and the same law. Prophets, apostles, preachers, martyrs, pioneers of knowledge, inspired artists in every art, ordinary men and the Man-God, all pay tribute to loneliness, to the life of silence, to the night." - A. James LaBrie, In Flames, Pain Of Salvation, Magnum just in the honorable mentions?  :omg: I would put them much higher but now you got me interested. I'm following this.

For Magnum I would have chosen Wings Of Heaven but Storyteller's Night is definitely up there.
Must've been Kwyji sending all the wrong songs.   ;D

I just noticed; how the hell is TPE's title track not in the 'best tracks' list when you name that many?

Because it's not one of the best tracks bro.  :P

That surprised me too mate.  But really, it explains my cd buying obsession over the last 3 to 4 years.  I have bought so many cd's lately and I think it's just trying to find something that I haven't found in releases 2007 and before.

I actually don't think it's the music's fault come to think of it, I think I am just in a different place in my life where music isn't as influential. I'm 28 now, and music is something I enjoy on a daily basis, but I've grown up and things don't influence me and affect me like they did when I was 20.

Alright, I'm at work at the moment but let's knock over the rest of the HM;

55. The Tea Party - The Edges of Twilight

Seriously underrated trio from Canada right here.  Terrific music with influences from Zeppelin, The Doors with lots of middle eastern flavours.  This album is the pick of the bunch, but really all of the bands albums are different and worthy purchases. Great songs, melodies, vocals, and use of many different types of instruments.  A truly unique album that is something different but really should be enjoyed by rock lovers also.  Check it out.

Best tracks: Fire In the Head, The Bazaar, Coming Home, Sister Awake, Walk With Me, Correspondences

54. Redemption - Snowfall on Judgement Day

Most of you know this one.  Killer prog metal from Ray Alder and co.  Easily the bands best work with killer production, and not a weak song in the bunch.

Best tracks: Peel, Walls, Black and White World, Unformed, Love/Life

53. Black Sabbath - Heaven and Hell

Dio (RIP) fronted Sabbath took the world by storm and Sabbath found a new found status again in the metal world.  Dio took the band to a new level with an absolute powerful and iconic hard rock album.  Brilliant.

Best tracks: Title track, Neon Knights, Lonely is the Word, Die Young

52. Evergrey - Recreation Day

Prog metal band Evergrey here with a brilliant piece of metal.  Perfect melodies, very tight drumming and some really incredible guitar solos.  The band were at their peak here with easily their best effort.

Best tracks: Title track, The Great Deceiver, End of Your Days, As I Lie Here Bleeding, Visions

51. Gamma Ray - Land of the Free 2

An odd pick here from Kai Hansen and the boys but I loved this album, even more than the first Land of the Free.  I thought it was well played, well written and put together really well.  Kai obviously wears his influences on his sleeve, but I can forgive him for that.  Some absolute blasting power metal here which is really really solid, great album.

Best tracks: From the Ashes, When the World, Real World, Opportunity, Insurrecction.

The 'other', 'other' Canadian trio   The better trio(s) had better make an appearance!

Good choices there.  Don't know Gamma Ray, but the others are exccellent.

My fav two are Crystal Empire (not a bad track on that album) and Eternity (couple of softy's there).  Circle of Life and Dimensions honk (ie, suck), and I'm not overly fond of this year's release.  Legend of the Shadowking is pretty good.

Crystal Empire made my Top 50.  If you've got that one, give it a spin.

And here we go;

50. Bush - Sixteen Stone (1994)

many of you are scratching you head right now I now, but starting off my top 50 is something that you would not expect from me but was the first real rock album I ever heard and embraced.  Bush are a British band fronted by Gavin Rossdale and were very popular in the mid ninties.  This is their debut album and by far the best work they have ever done.  Hearing Glycerine on the charts interested me so I tried to look into them further.  Seeing the clip for Comedown then sealed the deal and this was my Xmas present in 1994.  It opened the door for rock to me and this album will always be special and deserves a spot at number 50.  Powerful guitars, gritty vocals, strange lyrics, great rhythm section and just amazing songs, this album churns through song after song hitting you in the face everytime with some powerful grunge, even verging slightly on hard rock and metal at times. Gavin’s vocals and melodies are very interesting and Nigel’s guitar playing made the Bush sound IMO, while Dave and Robin was a very rockin’ and adequate rhythm section.  A wonderful album that every grunge fan should own.  i still enjoy listening to this album a lot.

Best tracks:  Everything Zen, Bomb, Little Things, Comedown, Machinehead

Fuck, Dan Zimmerman (Gamma Ray) and Sascha Gertsner (Helloween) are on this, checking out now.

Come to think of it, I think I knew they were in the band but the releases I have don't feature them.  listening now.
