Bringing this one back from April. The new (or, not so new now) album is still one of my favorites of the year. Sooo good.

Hoping to see them live this winter in support of BTBAM (BTBAM would be supporting them, if I had my way).

I wouldn't say that I'm "in the know" but I did really like their most recent release: In Times

One of my favorites from last year

i basically said yolo and ordered Axioma with my next album batch since you apparently can't go wrong with Enslaved so why not get the album right before what i have

also it was cheap as hell, like less than $6

I really, really like Ruun, so I'd recommend that next. The songs are a little shorter on that one, nothing past the 7 minute mark.

Hey, the length is fine :azn: Thanks!

Finally getting around to checking this band out, been on my radar for years. So I bought Vertebrae for £2.99 (goddamn bargain) and I'm really enjoying it on first spin. Will get their latest two next I think.

Is their latest release generally regarded as their best?

I recommend working your way chronologically from Vertebrae onwards, Axioma Ethica Odini is my favourite Enslaved album and RIITIIR is very good as well. I wasn't that hot for In Times myself, but people seem to dig it in general.

Cheers dude, think I might do that. Were the pre Vertebrae albums more straight up black metal? Was that the album they started to develop their sound?

I'm not an expert on their pre-Vertebrae material, but they started to get more progressive around Monumension I think. People seem to describe that record as "weird" from a black metal perspective.

I haven't really been able to get too into Axioma but RIITIIR is the bomb, Roots of the Mountain and Storm of Memories are both killer tracks.

That is an accurate description.  They started to incorporate progressive elements with Monumension, and by the time Vertebrae came out it was well incorporated.

The new single is out.  In Times was my favorite album of 2015.  On first listen, I like this new single even better.  It's even more progressive, has symphonic elements, and still maintains a dry Nordic aggressiveness.  Beautifully contrasting music.

I like Enslaved. When I'm in the mood they really hit my spots but it is rare I put em on, for some reason. I find quite a bit of their later stuff a little disjointed, I think.

Saw them in a tiny place in London on the Axioma tour and they were absolutely fucking amazing, though.

This new one is great so far.

Anyone checked out the new album yet? It's on my Spotify playlist, I'll probably get to it tomorrow. Also really looking forward to seeing these guys support Opeth next month  :metal

I've only just finished giving it a first listen. It's definitely interesting but I need more listens. I could say the same for a lot of 2017 albums, loads of stuf that probably needs more listens but there haven't been many albums that have grabbed me by the balls and not let go!

i mean on first listen i dug it a lot. feels like it's pushing into more atmospheric territory than the other albums i have from them, even riitiir.
but i am also looking forward to listening again & most likely purchasing, was a good first listen

So I'm on a bit of an Enslaved kick as I'm seeing them support Opeth next week. On top of that their new album is most excellent so I'm enjoying them quite a lot.

I'd previously only downloaded In Times and Vertebrae. In Times is easily my favourite of those two. Today, however, I downloaded Axioma Ethica Odini, E (which I'd already given a few listens on Spotify), Isa, RIITIIR and RUUN. All of these albums have plenty that I dug on first listen (actually second for RIITIIR as I did sample it earlier this year, at some point). I love this bands take on progressive black metal.

I have no idea what they are likely to play live next week, or what are considered fan favourites. I'm just happy absorbing all this awesomeness ready to see what they bust out. Given it's a support slot and they have a new album out, I guess it'll be at least 50% stuff from E. I'm more than happy with that though.

Anyone else seeing them this year? Or seen them in the past?

Really good.

A very late response, but I've seen them that year, in a venue that doesn't exist anymore, in a city I no longer live in. Corona killing concerts made me reminisce about all sorts of things, and one of the things was how on point, mature, crushing Enslaved sounded and how much I'd love to see them again.

Ehh, that made 5 and a half minutes feel long. Doesn't really make me look forward to an Enslaved album anymore which is a shame.

The new drummer does very well with the Dirge Rep stuff. I was wondering how he was going to go about the faster stuff from the earlier records.
