Words you have difficulty pronouncing.
« on: June 15, 2012, 01:21:57 AM »
World. I have to really think about it every time I say it, and it always comes out slurred and incoherent. I'm pretty sure my southern accent is to blame for this one.

Regularly. It's a one-word tongue twister, and it sounds ridiculous.

Jewelry, because I'm trying to not pronounce it like "jewlery".

On a related note, luckily I have not ended up in this position yet, but I think I would have major problems taking someone seriously if they say "aks" instead of "ask".

I shorten it to two syllables - joolree.

And that is correct. It's just like revelry and cavalry. Not like tomfoolery.

For a long time I had a hard time with "mirror", but then realized that Americans just pronounce it like the space station Mir.

I have more of a problem with figuratively. However, there are few words with which I have problems on their own, but when reading texts out loud, I sometimes stumble over the easiest words. Probably because of my concentration waning, though.

I assume that's maybe a regional thing to pronounce it that way?  I don't know, because it makes me crazy when I hear people do it.
