Round 7: In my initial plan this was going to be a free round to wrap up the roulette but we're going to add a twist so you guys can have some fun instead of me hoarding it all for myself.

For this round you will send three songs of your choice - since it's going to be a lot of music to listen to (27 songs) I'd like you to send shortish stuff but it's not a theme restriction, if you have a really awesome 10 minute song you want to send, do it (though I might listen to it less times than I would for a 5 minute song due to time restrictions). The catch in this round is that you will have to choose how you want to be scored. There are three choices:

- Best: Highest rated song times two. For example, if I rate your submissions 7, 9 and 5 your score would be 9 * 2 = 18 points plus any bonus points if any of the songs are from my list of bands (these bonus points don't get multiplied).
- Worst: Lowest rated song times three. Following the same example, your score would be 5 * 3 = 15 plus bonus points.
- Sum: Sum of all scores minus four. For the same example your score would be 7 + 9 + 5 - 4 = 17 points plus bonus points.

You will have to estimate my scores and calculate which is the option that suits you best - each of them has its pros and its cons. The scores will be high enough that anything could happen, so choose wisely.

Being the final round, I'm going to give you some hints about my list of 30 bonus bands:

Lots of stuff to post about, let's do this by pieces like Jack the Ripper said

- I already got black_floyd's submission for round 6, listening to it right now
- We've lost obscure to Real Life, let's all keep one minute of silence  I hope you will still read the roulette obscure since I have something in store for each one of you when it ends.
- I received 5 submissions for seventh round already, and all three scoring methods have been selected at least once - this is going to be a fun round to score (even though I have no idea where I will find the time to listen to 24 songs 3 or 4 times each).

Also,

Múm are icelandic BTW. :)

Yeah I saw in Wikipedia, what I meant was that at first I thought they were singing in icelandic but then I realized (with the help of lyric sites :P) that they were singing in english. Really surprising band BTW, they've made the list of bands that I need to check out once this hectic game finishes.

Round 6 scores for late submissions:

black_floyd - The Smashing Pumpkins - Porcelina of the Vast Ocean (9 points)
Another excellent song that doesn't feel as long as it actually is. The intro is brilliant with the changes in dynamics and when Billy starts to sing and I see that we're already almost in minute 4 I'm surprised that much time has already passed by. I know his voice is pretty controversial and a lot of people dismiss the Pumpkins just because of that - but don't worry, I actually enjoy his voice. I like the mix of heavier choruses with the ambientish (oceanic if you will) verses and instrumental breaks. This is the second song off this album I listen to (after Tonight, Tonight 17 years ago when the album was published) and it looks like I need to check out this album - better late than never. 9 points.

obscure - *shels - Journey to the Plains (9 points)
This wasn't really a submission but more of a farewell song (I hope it's ok for you that I post it) but I found it so great I included it as your round 6 song. I had never listened to any post-metal before this (at least I think this is post metal) but if this is indicative of the genre, I will need to delve further into it. I love the mix of heavy instrumentation with an ambient style and the little vocal touches in the last couple of minutes added to the crescendo give it a very epic feeling. Nine points for you (and just to be clear that does not include a single bonus point for farewells, the song is just that good).

Yeah, I want to do an album round but I can't really listen to 8 albums so I will take the two highest scores (could be more than two participants if there are ties) and have them send me one album each.

This round is going to be crazy with the high scoring (up to 33 points for three perfect submissions) so everyone has a chance to advance to the finals really.

Three perfect submissions all by bands in your list and the person who sent it must have chosen worst, right? Otherwise it would be 23 or 29 respectively.

That's right, scoring method matters a lot. So far I've judged two people, one of them chose the best scoring method for the scores he got, the other could have received 1 more point with a different method. I will give all this info when I post the results

I found choosing the scoring method actually the hardest thing to do :lol It's still pretty difficult to pinpoint what you like and what not, so I hope I went with the best, but we'll see.

Haha glad I made it hard to choose... I actually spent some time creating an Excel file to check the score of all the possible score combinations (from 0 0 0 to 10 10 10) and in what percentage of them each scoring method was best. Then I did the same for the most likely score combinations (from 6 6 6 to 10 10 10) and I fiddled with the parameters until everything was pretty even. I wanted to make sure there wasn't any clearcut best scoring method and that you had to actually evaluate my most likely scores for your songs to decide what you wanted.

You need to change your thread title.  This round is anything but "unimaginative".  I'm about as confused as a baby in a topless bar.  Thankfully, I can just sit on the sides and watch.

Judged!

I'm so excited to post the results, I ended up doing the usual writeup for each song so it's going to be a HUGE post (with a 25% reading attendance I think :lol) and I have some stuff for you guys.

So, what I mean by all of this is... O black_floyd, where art thou?

I'm quite excited. Also a bit curious since 3 songs per person is quite a lot, and some songs might need more spins to fully click.
When can we expect the results? (don't want it to sound like it's a rush, just curious)
