Burning My Soul

I love this song. This song is awesome. I admit that it sounds forced but I don't care. I love the anger, the attitude, and the heaviness. Seems like no one else likes it, but I do, so....

Gadough isn't Hitler. He's much, much worse.

Burning My Soul is the 2nd worst thing to ever happen to DT. (The worst thing to ever happen to DT is the worst track on this album. You know the one.)

On the flipside, Hell's Kitchen being lifted out of Burning My Soul is probably the single best thing to ever happen to DT.

Burning My Soul is awful and has no redeeming qualities.

I chose neutral because although never listen to it, I don't exactly hate it. It's just kind of there along with You Not Me and Just Let Me Breathe, JLMB being the worst of the 3. I wouldn't mind if those songs never made it to the album. I guess what I'm trying to say is, the song sucks, but I wouldn't skip it when listening to the album.

That. While I like parts of BMS, i like the arrangment of sections better in BMS 96'

HOWEVER.

I prefer them split apart...HK is terrible in BMS. Worst DT middle transition. Also, the parts that got added to HK are simply ear-gasmic.

I voted neutral, but I lean towards no. It has some alright qualities.

What I really don't like is the term "Haters Gonna Hate", and the My Little Pony "Brony" meme/fad, which you just had to post combined. >:(

I gave this whole album a good solid listen last night and well, I don't think its nearly as bad as people make it out to be. As far as this song goes, I think there are better songs on the album, but its not bad  :tup

EDIT: for the record, I voted yes lol

Love the agressive vocal tone but that's all about it. The lyrics and especially chorus are mostly off for me.

There's like ONE decent riff in that song. Other than that, it's a god awful song. When you take a step back and think about what this band is capable of and then compare that to Burning My Soul, the natural reaction is:

It has some good parts (the intro bass riff is cool as hell), but the chorus is very lacking to say the least.  I am not sure I'd say I dislike it, but I don't like it very much either.

And the original version was a travesty.  Taking out the parts that became part of Hell's Kitchen was utter brilliance.

I can't say this is the song I like least by Dream Theater-hell, on FII I dislike Just Let Me Breathe more-but that doesn't save Burning My Soul from sucking like an Electrolux.

I don't get all the hate. Sure, it's far from one of their better songs, and easily one of the worst on the album, and not one I listen to much, but it's really not that bad. I would probably never listen to it on its own, but as an album track, I'll happily listen to it with the rest of the album.
So I voted "yes", but only just. It needed some love.......... ok, that's far too strong a word......... tolerance. Yes, tolerance.

Is that piccard?

Burning My Soul is the 2nd worst thing to ever happen to DT. (The worst thing to ever happen to DT is the worst track on this album. You know the one.)

On the flipside, Hell's Kitchen being lifted out of Burning My Soul is probably the single best thing to ever happen to DT.

The best thing that happened to DT was them not being able to release a two disc Falling into Infinity, which led to them releasing Scenes.

Burning My Soul with Hell's Kitchen was a bit more than a "meh" song. BMS without HK is a terrible song (besides the first bass riff), and HK is a near masterpiece. So, I guess I'm ok with the split, but maybe they should have left the former out of the final album. I will never be able to see how they could privilege BMS over rejected songs like Speak To Me and Where Are You Now, or even over a light rock song like Cover My Eyes.

Absolutely not. This song is a perfect example of what I do not want music to sound like. Down there with Justin Bieber. Yes, it IS that bad for me.

Great point here. Although it would not fit time wise, Raise the Knife taking the place of just BMS would have been fantastic. Although not as heavy, it does have a similar thing going on.

the chorus is (and lyrics in general are) pretty "ugh", but i rather like the rest. it would've been a travesty if they'd left HK in the middle, though... sorta how i feel about the "Beautiful Agony" part in ANTR, tbh.

Back in the late 90's, this was one of three songs (together with Pull Me Under and The Mirror) that got me into Dream Theater.  At the time, most of my favourite bands were from the 70's and 80's, bands like ACDC and Ozzy Osbourne, so I found DT's heavier, more riff based, and overall more simplistic and catchy songs to be more digestible then, say, A Change Of Seasons.  It wasn't up until I actually started buying all their albums that I began to develop a deeper appreciation for numbers like Learning To Live and Scarred, but while I certainly favour the longer epics these days, I still have something of a soft spot for those (relatively) shorter metal songs, like the three mentioned above, as well as Lie, that helped introduce me to the band.

Oh, and Derek's solo in the song is fucking killer!   :metal

That's exactly where I am with FII.  I know a lot of people slag on this album, but I just don't see what's so horrible about it.
