The worst and best sounds in the world.
« on: March 08, 2012, 08:06:36 PM »
I'll start us off:

worst sounds:
clacking of high-heels
crying babies
noodle slurping
page turning (especially that of newspapers and thin religious books)
the scratching of a mellotron

best sounds:
popcorn popping
a jet taking off
fmaj7 chord on guitar
the hollow years LAB solo
a golfball falling in the hole (got this from somebody else)
echoing sniper rifle firing in Battlefield
"All great works are prepared in the desert, including the redemption of the world. The precursors, the followers, the Master Himself, all obeyed or have to obey one and the same law. Prophets, apostles, preachers, martyrs, pioneers of knowledge, inspired artists in every art, ordinary men and the Man-God, all pay tribute to loneliness, to the life of silence, to the night." - A. :dangerwillrobinson:

I think clattering silverware and general dining room sounds can be added to the list as well.

Worst sounds:
Fat people breathing very heavily.
Snoring.
Loud chewing.
Girls from Los Angeles.
French.
Click Tracks (When you play with one every week for hours, you begin to hate it)
Distant music that you can't make out but hear very well.

Best sounds:
KAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN!

The crunching sound in Lost and Found by Amon Tobin. It's fucking orgasmic: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A_jZqk0tq1w&t=1m

I agree with all of these, but what do you mean by the last one?

Also, people (especially girls) that talk with a 'crackle' in their voice. They think it's sexy but it's so so annoying.

I definitely have to agree on the silverware.
Bad sounds:
Ticking down timer on a bomb
Cracking bones

I'll add the melodic ring of wind chimes on a slightly breezy summer day (to the best sounds category)
Also, the piano pieces of Italian composer Ludovico Einaudi.
Also, the sound a woman makes when shes going to orgasm (perhaps a little to much info  :P)
Also, the peaceful sound of waves lapping against sandy shores.
Also, thunderstorms at night and steady rain on a lazy saturday morning.
I could go on all day... These just stick out

Like if you're in an apartment, and your neighbor is listening to loud music. You hear noise, and can tell it's music of some kind, but you can't actually make out anything other than the beat, it's too distant to make out, but loud enough to hear....annoying.

clacking of high-heels

Agreed, especially since my boss LOVES to wear her high heels and tromp around like she's someone important or something. :\

the scratching of a mellotron

 :lol

Other worst sounds:
fingernails scratching a chalkboard
car crashes

Other best sounds:
the sizzle bacon makes in the frying pan
rain
the constant chirping of birds in the spring

No, not corny at all--it's hard for me to describe, but hearing kiddos laughing just makes me melt.

Oh, and GOOD CALL on the pool break one. :tup

It's a feeling and sound like no other, there is minimal force in contact, you just hear the swoosh-CRACK, then the table goes apeshit.  Gives me wood every fucking time.(I play a shit ton of pool)

Not to hijack the thread or anything, but before my folks divorced Dad had a pool table in the front room of the house I grew up in down in Houston.  I remember falling asleep to him and his work buddies drinking some beers & shooting some pool.  I'd also hide under to scare the shit out of my brother when he would come home from school. :xbones   Good times.

I actually really like this sound.

Also, I've got to agree that wind chimes are amazing.

Best:
The sound of nice shoes against tiles/linoleum/etc.

For a while this was the sole reason I watched movies on my computer with headphones. Weird, I know. But small details like footsteps are soothing to me.
I felt its length in quite a few places.

Worst sounds:
The noise that your teeth make when you wake up in the middle of the night, just in time for them to crunch/grind against each other in a really horrible way.

Whistling. I hate whistling.

Best sounds:
That bit of the Light Fuse And Get Away keyboard solo where Kevin Moore plays that really high note

The sound of walking on grass when it's a very frosty morning
This is as exciting as superluminal neutrinos. The sexy thing is that this actually exists :D

Worst ever: A horny cat whining to the males to come jump on its rump. Seriously. If that stupid fucking animal isn't cut open and whatever evil force is making it do that isn't taken out in the next few days, I will tear that stupid thing open with a hacksaw and do it myself. Then I will burn it.

Best ever: Obviously a very sexy woman making love and right as both (women) are about to climax in a flurry of pure love and joy, she kamehameha's a thick, juicy fart; a blast of wind with a tail-end of slight wetness that sounds like the groaning alien ships from War Of The Worlds (2005).

That is all. Fuck this world and all the cats in it. I haven't slept in two days. The cat is looking more and more like a T-Virus feline while I am looking more and more like the Sith Lord with the mind of a thousand ants.
