Another entry where I prefer the honorable mention over the actual Top 50.  Both good albums.

Hell yeah, Vanden Plas FTW!
Everyone else, except Wolfking is wrong.

Selling England :heart

One of my all time favourite albums, a Top 10.

You need to sign up for a Top 50 Zydar!

Let's make it even worse for TAC.  Force him to listen to Phil Collin's solo albums.

Nice to see some Genesis in there. I really like Selling England, although it wouldn't be in my top 50. Nursery cryme, on the other hand, would.

36. Dredg - Catch Without Arms

While I think that El Cielo is a fantastic album, it wasn't till the band was semi-forced into a slightly more commercial approach with Catch Without Arms that they truly hit their stride. The album features some of the band's best song-writing, along with a bunch of very memorable moments. To me it was the rare occasion of an outside influence having a good effect on a band's output. There have been many examples of when this doesn't work, most notable here would be Falling Into Infinity, however there are also plenty of examples of when it does work, and this is one of them. I think a large part of it comes from a band applying their best qualities and a positive attitude to the situation they are in.

Favorite tracks: Bug Eyes, Hung Over on a Tuesday, Catch Without Arms

Honorable mention: Kamelot - The Black Halo

Once again your thread title change disappoints me.  I thought "Posts Without Typing" was a clear reference to the song "Games Without Frontiers" and that Peter Gabriel III aka Melt made it onto your list.  Oh well, at least, like the last two times this happened, its a fantastic album anyways.   :tup

Yeah, their newest isn't a good indicator of their sound and their first album just isn't as good as the middle three, but those three that Reaper mentioned would all be great to pick up.

35. The Flower Kings - Paradox Hotel

Prior to their soon ending hiatus, The Flower Kings put out a tremendous amount of material in a short span of time. Keeping pace with the best prog bands of the 70s the big difference was that instead of putting out 40 minute vinyl records, The Flower Kings were releasing music at 80 or 160 minute clips every year. It's no surprise that one of the big complaints about the band was the amount of filler on their albums. While I love the band that is a pretty fair criticism, save one album. Paradox Hotel is killer from start to finish, two full discs of awesome tunes displaying a wide range of The Flower Kings style and ideas. The album lacks any single song to compete with an epic like Stardust We Are, but it more than makes up for that in consistency.

34. Fates Warning - Parallels

Didn't even notice it when making the list, but this was another album whose commercial flaw helped it be as good as it is. Fates Warning had been fantastic up till this point, and this album just took all their awesome sauce and bottled it into neat condensed bottles. It's probably the only Fates Warning album in which every single track is memorable, and they managed to hit that high level of catchiness without sacrificing an ounce of what makes Fates Warning great.

Parallels is a great album. It combines the technicality of Perfect Symmetry with the commercialism of Inside Out. Just a great written album, far more efficiant than the overblown APSOG. I love We Only Say Goodbye and The Eleventh Hour. Great pick after a handful of picks I could not relate to.
I mean, people actualy like that dredge stuff? I checked it out..not for me.

33. John Petrucci - Suspended Animation

Quite simply put, the best instrumental album I own. I hate to spoil it folks, but no LTE, no Derek Sherinian, no Scale the Summit, this is the cream of the crop. I have always been surprised with how much I love this album considered how guitar focused it is. My one complaint has always been that he shows off the guitar more than overall song-writing, but the guitar melodies and parts on this album are just killer. Knowing I was going to be meeting John I didn't look to get his signature on any DT or other album, this was his baby and the one I am so happy to have his ink on. The long awaited and long delayed follow up is in general one of my most anticipated albums right now.
