Alright, here we are. The first round was pretty sweet, I must say. I'm going to score the songs in the order they were given to me:
Lonestar:
Triumph-Lay it On The Line: Oh look! A Canadian power trio! Who woulda' thunk it?!?! Well, I must first say that this song is pretty sweet. It reminds me of the beginning days when a young numbers started digging music through listening to his dad's radio in the car on the way to his grand mother. This song has classic rock all over it. Nice riffs, classic tone, rockish chorus, and a dude who sounds like his balls are non existent. The song is pretty badass, but my one big gripe with it is that is comes dangerously close to the cheesy type of classic rock that I've come to be wary about in my search for better and better music. (See Nightranger for the ultimate in what I'm talking about.) Pretty good song. 5/7
DTVT:
Sleepytime Gorilla Museum-Angle of Repose: Now, here I feel bad. You sent this not for you, but for Gorille and here I am disliking it. I just don't dig it, dude. Sorry. It's a tad weird for my liking. It sounds almost as if Emilie Autumn got psychedelic but something happened in the middle that just didn't quite connect. Maybe it was the chick singer's voice, maybe it was the dissonant music in the back, but I just really didn't like it. I felt that there was too much going on most of the time, the weird time signatures through things off at points, it was just not my type of thing. 2/7
Sigz:
Skywatchers-The Curious Village: Awesome tune dude. Seriously. It's hypnotic, melodic, beautiful, but it has this drone that you get lost in. This music would be perfect for doing work, playing video games, riding in a car, and even sleeping. The synth in the back gives it a great psychedelic feel that I love, and the brass instruments through the entire thing also give it a dreamy feel. The entire song is...light. Like, I can feel myself floating while listening to it. I really love it. The singer has a great voice, but I must say...who the fuck are these guys?!?!
I couldn't find anything about them on the internet. I'd love to listen to more, but I couldn't find anything on wiki about them. 6/7 +1 for being the best song of the round making it a 7.
Ultimetalhead:
Dog Fashion Disco-The Hitchhiker: Pretty sweet song. I thought I was listening to something off St. Anger for the first 15 seconds of the song though.
These dudes are pretty weird. This isn't the first song I've heard by them, and all of them have been weird. The one big thing this song has going for it is its amazing chorus. It's big, catchy, and Mike Patton (right?) has a great voice. The song gets a bit weird and chaotic at times which I don't exactly like, but the better parts of the song make up for it. The band knows how to right a chorus that sticks. 5/7
Ravenheart:
Gary Numan-Pure: I dig the song. I've always liked the industrial I've heard but I've never really tried to get into it. The song is pretty messed up, as the lyrics show. After all, as you said, they're about a serial rapist, so that would be appropriate. The song is pretty heavy, which is awesome, and I love the way the verse is filled with repressed tension and anger that comes out in the chorus. My only gripe is that it sounds a bit too much like other industrial songs I've heard. Like, I feel like Trent Reznor wrote this song years before Numan did. Still, good song. 5/7
Lateralus88:
Psychostick-This is Not a Song, It's a Sandwhich: Dude...
This song is fucking awesome. It is heavy as balls and funny as shit. So many fucking quotable lines from it, I can't even do them all. My favorites would probably be, "It couldn't be an iron because it doesn't burn your face," THIS IS NOT A SONG IT'S A SANDWHICH *pinch harmonic!* ""It couldn't be chick because it doesn't want to marry" "It couldn't be a tub because it doesn't have a ducky" and then you have a heavy fucking breakdown that is awesome and hysterical (YOU BOUGHT...or stole
) This was fucking hysterical. Deciding whether this or Sigz's song was best was hard. 6/7
MasterShakezula:
Kraftwerk-The Robots: HEY LOOK! IT'S THE GUYS FROM THE BIG LEBOWSKI! This song is ok. Nothing really special. I tend to like electronic music, but the vocoder voices is what makes this somewhat annoying. The song is pretty catchy, but the voices get a little grating, to be honest. I don't know if there are songs where these dudes actually sing, because I would probably enjoy is more than with the robotic voices. Other than that, it's pretty cool, but the voices bring it down. 3/7
ariich:
Sylosis-Beyond the Resurrected: You are correct. This song is brutal. It's heavy, fast (but not too fast,) and full of balls. The problem is, while that is all true, nothing about the song really stick out that makes me want to come back for more. It's 100% in your face and that is its calling card. It beats you over the head for the sake of beating you over the head, and there isn't much more to it than that. Basically, I'm calling it one dimensional. It is great for what it is, but I want more to a metal song. All the greatest metal songs, even the ones that take your balls in a vice and squeeze the hell out of them have something other than the in your face violence. Also, another problem is that it is not all that original. I know that it is hard to be original these days, but I feel like Sepultura wrote this like 20 years ago. 4/7
