Where do you guys get these percentages? DNA test?

My paternal grandmother is 100% Cherokee, so it's easy for me to say 1/4 Cherokee. Can't speak to the others.

My god you people are so international  :lol
You live in Estonia, though, right?

Many of us simply live in North America.  Tracing our ancestry is important to us because many of our histories here are very short, and many of our family members do have a strong connection to other countries.  For instance, one side of my family, the latest of my side to immigrate, has Polish speakers and celebrates Polish traditions.  They call themselves Polish.  On my dad's maternal side we have annual reunions under a Norwegian flag, bringing together each of the five families of the children from the original immigrants.  On my surname line we've been here the longest, nobody from that line has a strong connection to immigration, I think I'm 7th or 8th generation on that line.  It's the only line we don't know reasonably close relatives from ancestral countries.  We know we're a Prussian line with German mix, but that's about it.

I have no source for any of this data, they never kept records like that in Egypt because we are records-sloppy by nature imo. You wouldn't believe the amount of data I can't find out about my country. I get lucky every now and then to meet people who're old enough -or a next generation passed on- to have some small detail that would make the picture clearer for me about something at certain point in time but that obviously wouldn't get past the 20th century.
But I look as Egyptian as it can get, I've been told I look like Tutankhamun and most of the Pharaohs in the painting on the temples walls heh
I really wanna do that DNA test that tells you exactly who you're made of. I heard they're expensive but I didn't look into it in depth yet.
I wouldn't want somebody with 18 kids to mow my damn lawn, based on a longstanding bias I have against crazy fucks.

As for myself... well it's quite complicated.

Judging by your accent, I will guess 10% Russian, 10% German, 10% English, 10% Mexican, 10% Antarctican, 10% Native American, 10% Swedish, 10% Irish, 10% Bacon, 10% Klingon, 10% Romulan, and 10% miscellaneous. Also may contain traces of nut and dairy.

Don't bother adding up those percentages. Both you and I know that's more than 100%. And both you and I know that it's still correct. Somehow. Don't ask me how.

The creation and destruction of harmonic and 'statistical' tensions is essential to the maintenance of compositional drama. Any composition (or improvisation) which remains consonant and 'regular' throughout is, for me, equivalent to watching a movie with only 'good guys' in it, or eating cottage cheese.

On both my mom's and dad's sides, I'm 4th-5th generation born in the USA, so that would make me American before anything else.

Mom's side- German, Irish
Dad's side- German, Irish, Italian

Dutch, right from 1600-1700 or so, till now. All Dutch.

50% Irish, 40% English, 5% French, 5% Scottish
How do you have anything other than binary fractions of ancestry? (like 1/2, 1/4, 3/8, etc)  I don't get 40%..

As for me, I am 50% Italian.  My paternal grandfather is 100% Sicilian (born in New York), but since Sicily to my knowledge is a melting pot of the mediterranian, I'm not sure Sicilian captures it all.  I've heard from several different places that our surname may actually be Greek.

My paternal grandmother's parents are from Naples (also born in NY).  Don't know much else.

My maternal grandmother was born in Hamburg, but her father's birthplace is likely in modern day Poland.

My maternal grandfather's family traces roots in the US for many generations as far as we know, but we seem to think they are of English and/or Irish descent.  Reynolds and Elliot are some surnames from his family.
