What is your Max Bench Press?
« on: December 07, 2011, 04:03:32 PM »
An extremely douchey and riskalicious thread, I know. But curiosity did kill the cat, right? Or something like that.

Just wanted to see how brotastic you guys at DTF really are.
The Idea is to post the maximum weight you have ever been able to bench.

Anyway, here is my legitimate, honest set of max bench presses:

  • Flat: 210 lbs
  • Incline: 185 lbs
  • Decline: 225 lbs

Post yours if you want, or have a sandwich. They are located on page 2 of this thread. One per person, please.

I can bench around 350 marshmallows.

Alright, honest answer, it's more like 20 marshmallows. Maybe 30 if I'm not hungover.

I haven't benched in a very long time. But my guess would be around 140 lbs. at this point.

Oh, you wanted the maximum we've ever benched? That would be somewhere in the 160-range for me.

My senior year of High School I lifted 360 one time. Had I continued and not gotten depressed for retarded reasons, I'd probably be able to do that regularly no problem to this day. I'm lazy though. No idea what my max press might be today.

Like I said, it was one press. Must have been pure adrenaline.

Either that or I'm not remembering it right. 360 sounds right though.

No offense Zook, but I've seen you and I doubt it was 360 lbs just because I've seen a high school kid bench 360 back when I was on the football team.  He was a freaking pile of muscle.  You still have a neck :)

I maxed at 275 lbs. (45+45+25 each side, 45 bar) when I played football.  I haven't lifted since 1999 though, so I honestly would probably struggle with 45s.

Yeah, exactly.  Zook, I'm not saying I don't believe you, but--well, actually, yeah.  That's exactly what I'm saying.

Wouldn't that be a world record? :lol :lol

Anyway, to answer this question, I really cannot.  I lift all of the time, but I never max out just for the sake of it; I just don't see the point.  Maybe I should do it, but I don't.  Too much nagging injuries happened years ago when I lifted heavier, so my focus now is not showing off my machismo my trying to out lift anyone and everyone.  Ya know?

It's not like I'm trying to bullshit you guys... Maybe it was 260. Something 60. either way, it was well above what I was capable of, that's why I could only do one.

Bench: 305 x1, needed help for the second rep.  Just recently got this.
Incline: 255 x3.
I haven't done decline probably since high school.

6'1", 185 lbs.

Pretty sure there have been a couple of NFL lineman (not even professional weightlifters) who have been known to bench 700-800 lbs, but I could be mistaken.

In college, playing football (real football with helmets and shit , not that wussified crap people play with their feet  ), I regularly worked out with anywhere from 240-260 lbs. My max bench press was 375. I recall barely getting it lifted. I never tried anything heavier.

With leg press I did 1700 once. I used to do reps with anywhere from 1000-1200, and during an excercise where we "popped" the leg press (tossed the weight then caught it on the way down), I used to work out with 10 reps of 1400 at the end of my set.

Squatting I did 1000 and deadlift was 700. (max)

You have to keep in mind, I worked out with weights probably 4 hours nearly everyday (5 -6 X each week) during this time.

Such is the life of a middle linebacker.

NOW...my knees are so bad I couldn't squat the bar without a couple of spotters.  :lol

200 was my max somewhere around my senior year. I took a weightlifting class so that definitely helped.

Nowadays it's probably less.

I'm a highjumper, so there's no point in going beyond that, well maybe finding my maximum once will be nice.

Oh and I weigh less than 155 myself, so that was the fun in going that far.

I really have never tried a max bench press to be honest.  I always just do what's comfortable and am moving the weights up slowly.  I'm worried about getting an injury, but I might try it on a chest day.

I think what I maxed was 265, now that I've been thinking about it. Of course, it doesn't really count since I only did one. I need a weight bench.

Right now I'm probably down to about 275 since I don't train for power lifting these days.

In my prime, when I was competing, I had a 315 bench (with a pause) 350-ish without the pause, a 550 squat (with a suit and wraps) and my best deadlift ever was 768 1/4 lbs, that was all while competing in the 198 weight class.

This photo of my team was taken at the last meet I competed in back in March 1998 - I'm standing in the back closest to the dude with sunglasses.  Good times.  I broke a record that day with my deadlift.

Jesus, I meant 60. How did I fuck it up that bad?

I hardly bench anymore. I had shoulder problems before and I was able to fix them by just not...doing stupid shit. Heavy benching is one of the things chalked up as stupid shit. I started weight lifting when I was 12 and probably hurt my shoulder a tad. I've had it checked out lately and it's fine, and pitching doesn't bother it.

With that said, I really love doing curls and pushups. I think I could do more than 60lbs, but I really have no reason  to.

That's still a big weight for a single curl.  Are you getting a full range of motion with that weight?

Also, this discussion should probably get moved to the gym and fitness thread.

Yeah, I have big bi's. It's not like I do 60lbs like it's nothing. I usually stay in the 40-45 range. 60 is for kicks when I want to impress the Ms.
