Eh, just use the console to kill the bloody thing. See if that crashes the game. If so, kill whoever asked you to do it and then move on to the next asshole's bloody favor.

For the most part helping the citizens of Skyrim out doesn't bug me. Which is odd because that's exactly what ruined GTA for me. I guess defending a town from marauding vampires is just more spiritually satisfying than driving your asshole cousin the bowling alley.

The first time I played Skyrim I focused primarily on main quest, even though I didn't finish it. This time around, I want that to be the last thing I do. I'm doing every side thing I can find.

Typically when I play these and other open world games I try to balance the main quests with the side quests so I finish doing both around the same time.  I'm such a sucker for completing any and all quests possible.  It's funny cause I often go into these games telling myself I am going to be a douche and I always end up being the nice guy.

Anyone experiencing frequent crashes? I've had my game crash at least a dozen times yesterday and finally just gave up trying to get any further. I'm trying to help the three people in Winterhold, and the first guy needs me to take out an ice dragon on top of the mountain (forgot the name). No matter how I approach the quest, the second one of my arrows hits the dragon, the game crashes and I have to restart.

Same thing was happening the other day when I'd trigger one of the Dwarven traps. Eventually it just worked, but it's still incredibly frustrating.

What are you using to manage your mods and load order? I'm using LOOT (alongside Nexus Mod Manager) and have 53 mods running smoothly without any crashes. It could also be due to one or more conflicting mods.

Ah, they just released a 1.1 patch for all platforms yesterday that fixes a lot of issues, hopefully it addresses yours!

On one hand, I hope so, on the other, it's Bethesda... so it'll likely change something minor somewhere, make his issue slightly different, and create a new issue somewhere. :lol

I've been having crashing issues as well, maybe once an evening or so.

I played for about 10 hours between Thursday afternoon and last night and didn't have a single crash. Looks like Bethesda might have fixed that properly.  :tup

I've only had one crash so far in my time playing which is about the same as the original release. I just wish I could use SkyUI.

Yeah, that's what I'm waiting for. It would be a big deal in the earlier stages of the game when you actually feel the need to pick a lot of items up.

Having now caught up on the Dragon Age games, I thought I'd play a bit of the Skyrim SE for a while rather than play a whole new game. Really does look lovely - I never had any mods for Skyrim so this is a big step up.

The automatic graphics settings suggested I should use Medium settings (presumably based on my CPU - my graphics card is pretty decent), but I set it to Ultra anyway and just reduce the fade distances, and it's running absolutely fine so far.

After getting out of Helgen I did a bit of exploring around the Guardian stones before heading to Riverwood, and I was treated to a stunning dusk view over the river. Definitely a great introduction to the remaster!

I got the free upgrade on Steam as I had the Legendary edition already (which I only ever played a few hours of - my original playthrough had been on PS3).

I'm a wood elf archer this time. Having played on PS3 before, archery sucked (always does with a gamepad) so I had been a warrior/mage combo. Now I'm properly specialising on stealth and archery. It definitely slows my playthrough down sneaking around all the time though. :lol

A lot of places, if I'm understanding your question correctly. Talk to the jarls and their stewards in the cities you visit.

Breezehome in Whiterun is usually the first one available. Riften, Solitude and Markarth are the other towns with available houses. There are just conditions for buying any of them. Whiterun's conditions are easily met just by dealing with the dragons.

Riften is my favorite place to be and I've been running shit for the Thieves Guild. I'll poke around there.

Just do whatever the jarl wants to become thane. Once you get there, buying the house is a prequisite for becoming a thane. I think in Riften it's investigating and then snuffing some skooma dealers. She'll also want you to help out the townsfolk, but that's pretty easy. Normally by the time I get to that point I've already helped several of them anyway.

It's a little obscure in Riften, you have to find an Argonian and give her a health potion to start the quest. She usually hangs out in the Fishery.

I've got all the houses/land except for Falkreath as the option to buy the land never comes up, no matter how many missions I do for the Jarl. There's only 3-4 trophies I haven't got and I won't be able to get the one for buying all the land because of this. I've read that it's due to completing a Dark Brotherhood quest earlier in the game,  before I even loaded the add on content  >:(

Picked this up for Xbox One for $25 new! Though I'm just scratching the surface on Dragon Age Inquisition and then Mass Effect will be out soon. Could be June until I play it.

If you haven't completed the civil war quest yet, you can change the jarl of Falkreath by ceding his hold to whichever side he doesn't already belong to. The new jarl might present that option again. If you have completed the civil war and did change out the jarl, you can find the old one at Winterhold/Solitude (depending on whose side he fled to) and hit him up. Maybe he'll offer it up. No idea if any of this will make any difference, but I recall that the changing of jarls did effect some quests.

I learned something interesting about leveling on my most recent game. There always comes a point around level 50 or so where your armour and weapons are so hot that the game becomes child's paly. You can change the difficulty settings but I always thought that was just a cheat for the bad guys. What I figured out is that if you use the console to make yourself level 250 or so, and you don't have to increase your stats or use the perks beyond what they already are, you'll come across some level 250 opponents that can actually whip your ass. Now that orc waiting around hoping for an honourable death puts up a monumental fight and really earns his place in Sovengard. That Ebony Warrior dude and I duked it out for what seemed like forever, with each of us nearly dying numerous times. Good times.

I'm actually hoping for a cake walk. The first time I play Skyrim, there was so much going on between discovering the world, entering every single cave I came across, miscellaneous quests being done alongside main quests, etc.. It made it really difficult to follow what was going on, at least for me. This time around, I want to have the map cleared and most of the side stuff out of the way before starting the main objectives. This time through, I want to just basically walk through the game like a movie.

I was sick last week and haven't been to work in 7 days now (came back today  :'( ). I did so much hunting. I spent a solid two days just wandering the map and shooting anything with a pelt. When my carrying capacity was at max, I'd go smith a ton of hide armor and then head back out. I'm at 92 smithing now, and I really really want dragon weapons and armor. That's pretty much priority #1 at this point. With a legendary glass bow, glass arrows, and a 3.0x damage bonus when sneaking, I can take down anything pretty easily. I can one shot sabre cats, and I can lay out a giant in two shots if one happens to be a critical hit as well.

Side note... Maybe I just don't remember them, but were vampires in the original release? I got a crossbow yesterday from some guy, which I also don't remember getting the first time I played. Pretty bummed that I can seem to make bolts for it.

The Vampires were a DLC.

Also, I like to play these games on easy as well for the reasons you stated.  There's enough in the game as is that making it challenging just takes away from time doing the things to me, are more fun.  Although, there is that point where things just get too easy.  Historically that is when I stopped playing (assuming I also completed all the quests).

Thanks for the advice. I did the civil war quest for the Stormcloaks and replaced the Jarl. Will see if the other dude is in Solitude and see if it helps. I was there recently and found the room with all the refugees n it  spoke to a load of people but not sure if the old Jarl was one of them.

It's just annoying that they broke a quest line which leads to a trophy. Got a couple of others to get (werewolf and vampire perks - not delved into that yet, I found being a vampire a pain when it happened by accident when I was low level.

I was off sick for three months last year and did little else but live in Skyrim

Morrowind was 2002

4 year wait for Oblivion in 2006

5 year wait for Skyrim in 2011

6 years have past. I am not holding my breath, but I am certainly crossing my fingers that we hear some Elder scrolls 6 info at E3

I'm waiting too but I have a hunch that ESO have pushed THE6 further into the future, i'm aware that it's being devoloped by a diffrent studio but I think because there's been a new Elder Scrolls game in existence during the Fallout 4 timeline Bethesda might not see the 6 year wait the same as we do. I'm just speculating so hopefully i'm entirely wrong and there's something brewing for E3.

Funny this came back up. I'm sick to death of Skyrim, and I'm nearly to that point with State of Decay, so I'm looking to move onto something else and have been knocking around giving Fallout another shot. I didn't much care for it (F3) way back when, but I'm more interested in these sorts of games now than I was then. Just not sure which incarnation to go for.
