2012-02-18 - Gasometer - Vienna, AUT
« on: October 28, 2011, 03:46:36 AM »
Hi,
As far as I'm concerned, there are no seat tickets for the DT show in Viena on February 18th so far. When I called there, I was told they aren't sure if there will be any seat tickets and if there are, it will be after the tickets for standing are sold out. It looks really weird... is anyone also waiting for better tickets? Or has anyone experienced a situation like this before?

As far as I know, there are no seated places in the gasometer except for the balcony, but only a few up there. So seated places are no guarantee for better places. If you really want a good look at the stage, come to the venue 5 hours early and wait in the first row. Apart from that, I don't see any other possibilities.

No way you have to be 5 hours early. Two is more than enough, if I can judge from their last concert in Gasometer.

Well, i guess it depends on the band. When I went to see Opeth 1 1/2 months ago I was there an hour before Pain Of Salvation hit the stage and managed to sand about 2 meters behind the front row. I could have probably had second row places, but my bladder told me to go to the toilet half an hour before the concert started.
Sixtease, do you think that one our before Periphery comes on stage would be an early enough time to arrive at the venue to get places near the stage? (Doesn't have to be first row, I just want to be able to see what all the musicians are doing)

Hi, I'm thinking of travelling from Prague to see the gig. Is there a cool place to have a drink before the gig where fans would hang out? thanks!

@Tyrias: yes, I do think so. I'll come not earlier than 70 minutes before the gig start myself. And I do want to be in front. :-)

@weeping-icon: Maybe we'll travel together then. :-) Unfortunately, I don't know any specific pubs in the vicinity of Gasometer. It's not a part of the town where I'm hanging around a lot. Some googling and tripwolf'ing reveals a promising tavern though: Barbanek Wiener Beisl.
I think I'd go for a beer rather after the gig though.

There are no seats in Gasometer. Standing room only. It's fairly easy to muscle in and get a decent place but if it's barrier space you want then get there early, maybe a couple of hours in advance.

As for cool places for a beer, this is fucking austria, everywhere serves beer! Gasometer is basically 5 converted gas towers containing all manners of things including bars so there's plenty of places. It's not too expensive inside either.

Is it not expensive in Gasometer? I didn't really check, as these huge shopping malls tend to feature overpriced food and drinks. Name a good choice then.

Yes, and often even some bio-Zwickl and imported Starobrno. :-D

I don't think it's sold out. Ring Gasometer?

Looks like it's going to be setlist A if you guys aren't averse to spoilers. if not, don't look at the setlist!

I really hope it's going to be setlist A. For every song that is different between the two sets, Set A has the song I like better. (Not that I would hate Set B, I'd still really enjoy it.)
Anyway, I'm going to be at the venue at around 7 wearing a black shirt with a yellow imprint "Pfadfinder" on my chest, so if you recognize me feel free to talk to me. I'm there alone so I could use some people to talk to^^

I'll have a brown leather jacket and a vivid horizontally-striped blue thing underneath. I'll show up shortly after six, so I might be well before you if there is a row. Feel free to join me, so you get a better place. :-)

...and Setlist A it was. Very good show, although the gig in July felt stronger - not too crazy about the lightning & video. Breakking All Illusions and Outcry were stellar! :)

By the way, does anyone no what happened during Outcry (at the beginning). I just saw the Security guards jumping over the front barrier and had significantly more room to breath afterwards, but I don't know what exactly happened.

I got sick just at the start of Dream Theater's performance :-( and had to get off the front and rest against a wall.

James sang very well. 6:00 sounded just like on the CD. Most other songs as well, though with 6:00, the fidelity was most impressive.

I was standing right at that spot. There was some crazy, apparently drunk dude who was pushing everyone around, the other guy pushed the first one to the ground and tried to kick his ass.  So it was smth like a fight)
