Eh, I don't see anything wrong with that.

When DT did it on BC&SL, don't ask me to provide the examples right now, I'd have to find where in which song it was, but I'm in class, entire sections from previous songs were just copy&pasted in.  It really pissed me off.  I don't know why.

SW could fart into a microphone and then do the same 2 years later and i'd probably love it..
Nah, i'd take it on a case by case basis. No doubt alot of people thought The Shattered Fortress was abit lame, although PT releasing Sentimental/Normal was a great idea imo.

Well, the song they did that in did it because it was wrapping up the 12-step suite.  It was an artistic move that I think worked really well.  The Shattered Fortress is still a badass song.

As for Venemo Para Las Hadas, yeah, the beginning is exactly like The Sky Moves Sideways, but the song is still fantastic, so I don't mind.

Besides, SW often plagiarizes himself, so it's not that rare. :P

I actually prefer TSMS, so it's always a bit annoying to hear this and then have it not be that.  :lol

Yeah this, The Sky Moves Sideways is higher on my personal favorites list, so when the intro starts, and SW doesn't go "We lost the skyline", I sorta go..  >:(

Speaking of SW plagiarizing himself, does anyone know if there's an official reason for the "Trains" reference in "Sentimental?"  My guess is that its the link between the kid wishing he was older and sentimental to the nostalgia-laden "Trains."

Which part are you talking about?

SW mentioned it in an interview, and yeah that's basically the idea IIRC.

Still can't find the "Trains" reference....

The Steven Wilson Song of the Day for November 1st is "Collapse The Light Into Earth" (Porcupine Tree)

Quite possibly my favorite PT song.  It's so beautiful.  In my mind, it's the perfect breakup song, even though I think the song is about a person dying.  Anyway, I can't even listen to this song anymore without tearing up or getting an emotional swell, especially during the last chorus.

That song has to be the best song I've ever heard in my life, I just can't put into words how poweful, beautiful, yet so simple of a piece it is. The sadness just pours out of that song so much. Like I said once, its so sad that it almost feels happy.

The Steven Wilson Song of the Day for November 2nd is "I Drive the Hearse" (Porcupine Tree)

Top 10 song/track/whatever here.  Really solid closer to a really solid album.  The chorus is one of those SW moments where it sounds very uplifting and inspiring, but the lyrics are actually very dark.  One of the reasons I love The Incident so much.

Also, either Zantera or Sigz, do one of you want to do it for next week, starting tomorrow?  You guys have posted here the most.

I never really cared for it. I only ever listen to it if I'm listening to the entire album, and even then I'll often stop at Circle of Manias.

I Drive the Hearse is a beast of a song; definitely a top 10 PT song in my book.  It contains most of the elements that make Porcupine Tree great.

I would also like to point out that I Drive the Hearse has some of my favorite PT-lyrics from the latter half of their discography:

And silence is another way
Of saying what I wanna say
And lying is another way
Of hoping it will go away
And you were always my mistake..

Achingly beautiful is how I always describe this song.  Top 15 for me.

Yay!

I've only listened to Signify like 4 times, and SoND is a song that stands out to me.  Really great opening song (I consider it the opening song).

Sleep of no dreaming is my favorite song off of Signify (which is the only PT album I don't really like). Regardless, Sleep of no dreaming is one of my favorite PT songs. Its so chill and mellow, but with such a strong presence. I love the lyric "I married the first girl, who wasn't a man".
