Yeah it's a pretty good album. Nothing entirely mindblowing or groundbreaking, but definitely enjoyable and fun.

Princess of China is a bafflingly great song. Rihanna is perfect on the song too, surprisingly.

I have to be honest, until now I've always really hated Coldplay. I've always found their singles boring and and Chris Martin's vocals whiny. HOWEVER I just saw the video for Every Teardrop is a Waterfall and that's a damn great song! The synths give it a sort of 'Madchester' 90s vibe, and I even like his voice on it. What album is that song from, and are the other tracks on it similar? It's their Travis-y songs like Yellow that I can't deal with.

yeah, was really into this album for a while. major minus/hurts like heaven/charlie brown/every teardrop/paradise are the best songs. probably the best album that coldplay have ever put out, in my opinion. great music!

The new album is good, but it doesn't touch Viva la Vida...

I agree. There are some really cool songs, but it's missing that magic.

Actually I think this is their best album. Before I only liked a few songs casually off of each album, but this album was pretty fantastic in every regard, really.

Yeah, I most likely prefer MX to VLV.

VLV > MX
This.

However MX has grown on me a little. Don't Let it Break Your Heart is a great song, as is Up with the Birds and the ones I mentioned over a month ago. It has some songs that I don't like (Hurts Like Heaven is a song I hate to like, and I didn't like Princess of China or Paradise at all) but it isn't that bad. Nothing compared to Viva la Vida, though.

Hurts Like Heaven is good, but I hate that the title track is a 43-second intro to it as a separate track.  If you listen to just Hurts Like Heaven, it is jarring for that to start suddenly.  Not sure what the point of making that intro a separate track was, but it's annoying.

I've had a pretty dramatic change of heart over the past few days. I'm growing to love this record, and I think it's an excellent compliment (complement?) to the earthy sounding VLV.

Yeah, I am really digging it as well.  I still don't like it as much as VLV, but is is a more than worthy follow-up to the (still) shocking greatness of the previous album.

Two really good Coldplay albums in a row!  Has hell frozen over? :lol :lol

Considering the differences between the last two and their first three, I'd say "a fair amount". I mean, the music and writing is still definitively Coldplay, but there are some bits and pieces, here and there, that are a bit Eno-ish, I'd gather, at least, as being "new to Coldplay", so are likely the results of Eno's input.

I got into Coldplay a while ago, and A Rush of blood to the head turned out to be my favorite album of theirs, although X & Y had its share of great songs. However, I was also pleasantly surprised by Mylo Xyloto. Paradise, Hurts like heaven and Major minus are the ones I liked the most, but Princess of China was surprisingly cool as well. I don't know about her vocals on there, Kev.

Doesn't sound like it, no. I mean there's always pitch correction but I don't really hear it. Did you think they were?

And I'm honestly surprised anyone would think differently.  It lacks the bombast that Viva La Vida has.  Coldplay set themselves up to write epic records and then they put out MX.  They needed an Achtung Baby moment and what we got was less than stellar.

I didn't, but a friend of mine heard the song and was convinced there was.

Also, I recently saw the grammy clip of them performing part of the song together and Rihanna sounded atrocious "trying" to sing her part, so that did make me wonder if she was even capable of singing that well, even in the studio.

WTF? 'Parachutes' is where it's all at. And maaaybe AROBTTH. That was Coldplay making honest, moody rock music. I honestly don't know where it went wrong with this band.

'Viva La Vida' has got to be the most annoying song ever written. I don't know why Joe Satriani would try to implicate it was actually his melody.

Very good album.  Kinda tapers off at the end for me, but the first five tracks are ridiculous.  All of them are still so nice to listen to.

New track entitled "Midnight" by these guys. It's getting lots of Bon Iver comparisons, and rightly so-- it's an electronic song with a crisp, cold feel to it... very different from Coldplay's usual efforts. I really like it.
