The entire thing was done in fans' homes.  That was pretty much all Casey's idea.  He wanted to make it a real fan-based EP and wanted to bring fans into the whole process.  The idea was that they'd pick 6 or 7 longtime fans, and each fan would come up with a lyrical theme and select a general song style, and then the band would write a song based around those prompts.  I've been a TDH fan for like 10 years and have gone to probably 30-40 shows starting in 2007 when they were playing to room of like 15-20 people, and I also got to be one of the hosts during his acoustic house show tour in 2010, so I've gotten to know Casey and most of the rest of the band pretty well over the years.  I also happen to live relatively close to New York City, which was one of the stops on their last tour, which was when they recorded this (on off days between shows).  So one day last summer I got an e-mail from Casey asking me to call him, so I did, and he explained the idea to me and asked me if I'd be interesting in being a part of it.  I obviously said yes.  And that was it.  I can't wait to hear the full song (they only did the instrumentals in-house.  The lyrics were written and recorded after the fact).

Wow, just wow. That must have been amazing. I mean fans like you clearly deserve an experience like that. So cool and one of the many, many reasons I love TDH, they do things like this.

Sure.

The lyrical prompt I sent was:

"Information Overload ... It's basically the concept that we are constantly being inundated with a seemingly never-ending stream of information coming at us all day, every day from all angles.  It also generally encompasses the idea that this volume of information is far too much for us to be able to process in any meaningful way, and we also tend to be very bad at evaluating how much of it is reliable and how much of it is just useless noise (or worse, intentionally deceptive or bad information), so we're often either left in a state of feeling completely overwhelmed and unable to keep up with everything we think we should know, or we think we're effectively absorbing it but really we just have a very superficial level knowledge on a broad range of things, but very little of it has any real quality or depth."

As for song style, I chose:

"The general style that you took on the Black EP on TCS.  Partly because I think it fits the subject, and partly because I just loved that sound and would love to hear more along those lines."

I haven't heard the final product yet, but I believe the song based on my prompt is "Blame Paradise"

Quote
The Right Wrong (Antone Bartolotta's song)
** The following is an excerpt from our vinyl booklet.
Antone’s memory is incredible, in that regard. Whenever we see each other, if we get nostalgic, I can always count on his ability to recall the details I don’t. I would imagine, that sort of strength of memory would have contributed a great deal to the subject matter he chose for “The Right Wrong”.
“The whole idea for my song always goes back to my daughter. It was a very small choice at the time, because I was 17- trying to figure out where I would go to college… I got accepted to University of Madison…as well as UW Whitewater, which is where I ended up going… which was a smaller public college. I never really knew exactly which path to take, as far as that went, but that little choice to pick Whitewater, when I was 17, affected a gigantic part of my life: between the friends I have, meeting Bella’s mother, etc… So, that one choice didn’t cause me to have my child, but it allowed me the opportunity to have her - and without doing that, I may never have had her- which is a terrifying thought.”

After listening on Act V for some time, I thought I would backtrack a bit since i'm pretty new to TDH. So I have since a couple of days been deep into Act IV and I must say the album is growing steadily for me, some really great musical moments on this album. Some tracks that stand out so far: Waves, At the end of the Earth, A Night on the Town (I love the last part), The Congregation the Sermon in the Silt. When King of Swords came on I had to check what band I was listening to  :lol but that's what I love about this band.
Btw, do they have a habit of reusing themes or melodies from previous albums because I noticed that the last motive at 5:08 in Ouroboros is used a couple of times in Who Am I on Act V, I thought that was pretty neat.

Acts IV and V in particular reuse a lot of themes from previous albums.

Yes, but only for the Acts.  There is a LOT of that going on.  It's a continuing story, and the idea is really meant to add context to the sections (e.g., signaling that one part of a particular song is somehow related to another part of another song).  There's a great YouTube video that captures quite a few of these.  Trying to spot hidden reprises is one of the favorite pastimes of the hardcore TDH fans.

Vinyl arrived this afternoon.

So jealous of you Chris. The write-up for every song is really extensive.

per turntable in storage, I'm gonna have to wait until the download comes on Friday.

I actually haven't even seen the write-up for my own song yet.  Casey is making up special packages for the 6 of us, so I didn't pre-order the album and won't have a physical copy until the Brooklyn show on December 13th. :o
