Ye, i gotta say i miss the old-anathema a bit.
Not the earliest-anathema, but the "middle"-era, with The Silent Enigma-Eternity-Alternative 4.

Not sure if I prefer the old or new version but it's good they still play the old "doom" stuff:

According to Danny, it's finished. Again. But at least Steven Wilson stays in the picture.

I´ve been getting into them lately, the first few songs on Alternative 4 absolutely do it for me. I only have Hindsight but I think it´s more like a compilation. So I´m planning to get A Natural Disaster and Fine Day to Exit, are those good choices?

Alternative 4 and anything since that is a good choice. Make sure you don't miss on Judgement, even if you (for whatever reason) don't like the ones you're planning to listen to first.

Ah Ok judgement is another alternative, too. Thank you.

Judgement is a great record.
And good to hear that you like them, i think Alternative 4 is a great record overall, because it has awesome variety with more "standard"-type songs like "Fragile Dreams" and "Empty" but it also has the title track, and "Regret" which is one of their best songs imo.

Judgement is my personal favorite but anything after Eternity (and some before it) is golden imo.

Tbh Anathema is a band i don't really know where you should start. :p
They got so many great albums, and even though they all have different sounds, it hasn't really changed like "OMG WHAT HAPPEND?" between 2 albums, the result is that their latest 4-5 (maybe 6?) albums are really solid, and share several things when it comes to the music.
Personally, the first song i heard by them was Fragile Dreams. (the reason behind this, was that it was their most played song on Lastfm, so i decided to start with it).
After that, i tried to get into Alternative 4, but i was very impatient at the time, and got disappointed that the following tracks didn't sound like FD at all, since that was the track i first heard and loved.
I moved on to Judgement (since it was the most played album on lastfm), and i liked it.
But i decided to really give them a chance, and after like 10-11 plays of the album in 2-3 days, i loved it.
It was a bit hard to get into for me, not because the music was difficult or anything, but because one of the things that is typical for Anathema imo is the tiny subtle things.
A song doesn't have to sound extremely difficult or technical, but if you listen to it carefully a few times, you realize like "wow, whats that guitar-solo?" or w/e.

Overall, this band has so many great albums/songs, and it's not really a question of where you start, just give the band time and listen to albums several times.
They will grow, and you will love it.

About 3 or 4 songs have already been released in one way or another. Most of them some time ago though.

I just hope Lee Douglas isn't featured too much. I find her singing to be fairly annoying.

I really like the cover too, my expectations are really high, because at this point i feel like Anathema has been letting us down for a long time.
Starting with the delay of the album (been 7 years since last album), and now it looks like the final-version will have 10 songs, though im pretty sure the setlist had 14-15 songs from the first "reports".
Anyhow, im really psyched about it never the less. :)

I'm just glad that it has the song 'Hindsight' on it. The bootleg versions of it are already great, can't wait to hear it in high quality.

I haven't actually heard any bootlegs/live versions what-so-ever, so im really psyched about this album, not knowing anything about it.
Many of the fans have already heard some early-live-versions, i missed Anathema when they were here last September, because it was 18 y/o restriction to get in, 2 weeks before my 18th birthday.
The guard didn't let me in, and even though i was disappointed then, now im more then psyched to see them. :P

Awesome news. I'm hoping they'll play it all live at the Islington gig a week or so before (reminds me to buy tickets)

I just hope Lee Douglas isn't featured too much. I find her singing to be fairly annoying.

Quote from: Anathema
With that in mind the band can announce that John Douglas' sister Lee has joined the group on a full-time basis. She had this to say of her involvement:

"It’s great to be more involved musically, and I feel that my vocals are adding a new presence and depth to the dynamic of the group. I’m in it for the long haul, so bring it on!"

I giggled. :)

Considering she doesn't play an instrument, i think her vocals will be featured on most songs, at least live. Otherwise she'll just be standing in the background. :P
