Definitely, you could start with virtually any of their albums, but I had to choose just one record, so :P

I think there are a couple of worthy starting points and personally would have chosen A4. It was that CD where the band wanted to strip down their sound completely and take a new direction with the music.  However Judgment is definitely an excellent choice. Deep and One Last Goodbye are brilliant songs.

A4 is fantastic, one of my favourites along with WS.
This first band is Soen very cool swingy jazz fusion kinda stuff.

Could we see a new album later this year? Danny already started writing like a month ago, Vincent met with his manager shortly after so I guess there's still time for them to enter the studio within the next months and deliver it around November. Pure speculation I know, but I'm excited for the new, more electronic direction they said they'd be taking.

Mmm, maybe but I would think next year is a more realistic timeframe. I hope I'm wrong though

I was just listening to The Lost Child and at 4:50, it sounds like someone says "what the shit". It's something that caught me by surprise. Has anyone else heard it?

Nevermind that, can someone explain the "what's up?" at the end of Internal Landscapes?

:bump:

Anathema has been playing some unreleased material on tour in Europe - apparently there are 6(!) new songs in the set: https://www.setlist.fm/setlist/anathema/2016/effenaar-eindhoven-netherlands-53fa2bc9.html

Also, Eternity turned 20 two days ago, so here's a reworked version of the review I wrote for the Anathema discography thread.

Would've loved to see this show. The setlist looks awesome even though I don't know if any of the new songs are good.

Ooh, I like it! You can tell it's Anathema right away, but it doesn't feel like a direct continuation of Distant Satellites. It's great to hear the guitars getting back to the front again and see John Douglas on drums instead of the electronic percussion. The lyrics seem to be a continuation of Barriers, though of course they may be changed before it gets recorded.

Yeah, looks like it replaced Fragile Dreams at the latest two shows. In France they closed with Metallica's Orion, though: https://www.setlist.fm/setlist/anathema/2016/big-band-cafe-herouville-saint-clair-france-2bfa2046.html

I think there's a chance the drums will be electronic when they record the new album, and I really hope they go into that direction - Distant Satellites is an amazing song imo.

Ditto to that. I listened to Distant Satellites (song) for the firs time in a while and it hit me hard. Gorgeous stuff. I do love the electronic side and sound from the band.

I, too, have been curious about their whereabouts. They had a new album out every 2 years, so 2016 seemed like a prime time for their next studio album, but I haven't heard much.

Per their Twitter account......

"A few firsts on this album: upright bass, trombone, flugelhorn, 1000 Argentinian backing singers..."

Also said they were on the way to Abbey Road to master the album back on February 17th.
Is all that we see or seem, but a dream within a dream?

That sounds promising and intriguing. They've always managed to change things up with each album, bringing something fresh to the table.

This might be the rarest piece of Anathema music. Apparently only five copies of this were made and four were given to the band. Who has the other one? Record label?
