Damn, I wanted to like that album so much. It's been on my most anticipated list for years and when it finally came out I couldn't care less. Can't connect with it on any level, which is weird because listening to Anathema albums has always been an amazing musical and emotional journey for me.
I envy you guys so much :( Any specific reason you like it so much compared to their other albums?

It just sounds beautiful.. It's engaging, it's emotional, it's spiritual, and it's musically just an amazing all around journey.
space cadet, pull out.

I prefer the sound to the old Anathema songs, Vinny's vocals have gotten better, Lee's a great singer now, there isn't a single weak song.

I Don't know, it just feels like it's a culmination of their hard for the past few years - there isn't a moment on the album that I don't love.

It just doesn't feel like an Anathema album to me. Completely different feel to it. I remember reading an interview where they were thinking about changing the name of the band because it no longer connects with them and how they feel, their musical direction and so on but ultimately decided not to. I was happy about that at the time but now I definitely see why they were thinking about it.
It's not like I hate the album, I don't think I even dislike it. It's just as if the album was never made if that makes sense. I still hope it brings even more people to the band and more success, they sure deserve it.

The songwriting has become so much better, and for the first time ever they aren't making depressive/makes me want to cry-music.
The songs are just so much more powerful, and the whole uplifting atmosphere of the album is just phenomenal.
As i said earlier, all of these songs would make a top15 Anathema songs if i made one, because even though i love their earlier works, this is so well polished & well executed, that i would pick it over Judgement or Alternative 4 any day.
There's not a dull moment on the album, and even though i was a bit skeptical towards Dreaming Light/Everything/Angels Walk Among Us at first, they have grown lots on me.
Beautiful numbers.
Universal, Summernight Horizon and Thin Air would be my 3 fav. Anathema songs, with Hindsight and A Simple Mistake not far behind.

Why would they?
They're better at what they do now whereas when they were an out and out metal band they were a bit like a poor man's Paradise Lost imho

I thought they were powerful and distinctive and preferred them over Paradise Lost. PL's lyrics seemed very convoluted whereas Anathema had some depth and clarity to them.

Judgment without a doubt (Its the best album that they have, IMO) and A Fine Day to Exit are two CDs that you might like. They're however more dark and obscure than WHBWH.

They only wrote metal songs until around 1994 then they went into some weird dance music phase until clawing back what they arguably shouldn't have left in the early 2000s. Anathema kept with metal arguably until Judgement. God knows what happened to them. I don't dislike their music now, just think that they were a quality and unique metal band who have seem to have abandoned the genre.

Tbh, I'd say that Anathema stopped  being a metal band after Silent Enigma.

As much as I'd rather sit here and sulk about how they've gone soft and happy, I do have to agree with you.  The album is growing on me, and rather quickly at that.

Guys, why does the Make Right (F.F.S.) have the keyboard sound that sounds so Dream Theatre Awake-era that it's scary?
