I heard an insturmental version of the Silent Enigma somewhere and I can't remember where I got it from. It's not on the CDs I have so where on earth did I hear it? I'm thinking some casette version.

Do you mean the orchestral-version?
Cause that one is instrumental, and you can find it on the reissue of The Silent Enigma. :P

Yes and Sleepless 96 but I can't remember owning the reissue so maybe it was on a vinyl version?

Just received the album through the mail. Artwork is very Steven Wilson-esque but still awesome.

Why are you comparing alt rock to prog rock?

Now that I've heard it on CD and on full volume, I like it even better.

They're not especially similar bands. Anathema are much better though of course.

Frankly when I first heard Anathema their softer moody sections reminded me EXACTLY of that side of Riverside.

And Riverside > Anathema.

I'm mega annoyed with Riverside still tbh, their first 2 albums were really good but I just think the last 2 have been mega disappointments.

there's a difference?....I'd lump these guys in with Karnivool as well....and again...not quite as tight musically. Sorry...if I'm genre blending here....they all seem pretty similar to me.

I can see why you'd say Riverside and Anathema are the same genre...but the 'Vool sound nothing like either of them, that one just confuses me.

Imagine how much simpler the world would be without genres!

Highschool would have been simpler...that's for sure.

Im not insulting the music, I guess I found them similar enough......subtleties......not spidies's strong suit.

I kinda stopped listening to this album when RSOne came out. Now that I got it on CD, I'm addicted to it again.

Listened to a song from their first demo at the weekend. Sounded good to be honest and very similar to early My Dying Bride (e.g. Turn loose the swans)

This album just keeps getting better with every listen!

I've had the CD in my car for a few days and the music feels like I'm flying through clouds, winged unicorns, rainbows made of dreams, and small planets straight into the sun.

I don't know if I'm 100% sold on the strength of the songwriting just yet, but this album is certainly a sonic treat. Great job there by the band and Steven Wilson.

The album has only fantastic songs, it's not only my favorite Anathema-album, these 10 songs would all place in a top15 anathema songs. =D
Also, it has already become one of my fav albums ever.

Riverside & Porcupine Tree, yes.
Riverside & Anathema, no.  Well.  Prior to this album.  Now I'm not so sure.

I can't say I'm disappointed with the new album, 'cause I'm not.  Per se.  I'm just... I d'know.  I need to think of it as something other than the Anathema I fell for (Alternative 4, Judgement).

...If I think of it as a hybrid of Porcupine Tree and Anathema it's easier to listen to.  I need to give it a few more spins, though.

and this'll do as a re-re-introduction of myself, 'cause I keep finding and losing this forum.  Hah.  :B
