Last night's show was amazing! Setlist here I love how engaging these guys are with the crowd, they bring a lot of energy and fun. But I must say, Danny needs to begin a diet right now, he's put on a lot of weight

I was watching a video from their most recent tours and it was from the (stage) left side (by Lee) and so you couldn't see Danny real well.. you just saw a bigger dude with headphones on. I was like "WHERE IS DANNY".. then a good enough shot came up and I'm like.. "OH that IS Danny"...

Stunning show tonight. They sounded amazing.

Daniel has a solo album, "Monochrome", coming out in October.

I don't really get it. This sounds like Anathema 101 to me, I hope the rest of the album is something different. I don't get it when people put out solo albums that are pretty much their band-lite. Good song, though.

Anathema was great last night. They played deep and 1 last goodbye which both weren't on the setlist. Even though deep didn't sound all too great the band was having fun and that what matters.

Yep. I know a lot of people aren't digging it but I think it's a good disc.

I'm eagerly awaiting new albums to arrive from Caligula's Horse, The Contortionist, The Great Discord, Lunatic Soul, Threshold and Sons of Apollo.  How did they vote for album of the year already?

I'm guessing it was a lot cheaper doing the ceremony now than in a couple of months

or they don't really use the Christian Calendar for their "Album of the Year" time frame, much like I don't either, anymore.

You think they're using some kind of prog calendar instead? Is there a prog calendar out there that I'm not aware of?

Their rules aren't publically available as far as I can tell but judging by the albums in competition, we can safely assume that an album has to be released between July 1st and June 30th of the next year to be nominated for an award.

They'll be considered for the 2018 ceremony. The Prog Awards always happen around now, so it's been a year since the last one. In fact, one of the nominated albums was F.E.A.R. by Marillion, which came out in September 2016. So their eligibility rules don't follow the standard calendar.

I think they do it as a year since the last awards, rather than best album of 2017?

You're probably right, but I don't really like doing it that way, lol.  I think years should start in January and end in December.  So, say Threshold wins the next album of the year award.  That means two albums released in 2017 (Anathema's the Optimist and Threshold's Legends of the Shire) would win album of the year, but for different "years"?  Blegh! :p

Well, it already happens with the Oscars, the Grammys and a bunch of other prizes so I don't think there's anythign wrong with it. Plus, we can say it's the Prog year which goes from July through June

Later this month they will have a show I could go to but not being a fan of their last 2-3 albums I am unsure if I should go or not and the venue doesn't seem to be great too.

Well, if you're not much of a fan of the latest albums then you should probably skip the show since it will most likely have tons of songs from those and WHBWH, that has been how they've constructed their setlists lately.

Really nice album, thanks for the heads up. Had no idea he was even releasing a solo album so this is a great surprise. Sounds very much in line with the last 3 Anathema albums.

Just checked out a few tracks and it’s not bad. Good background music, not a big fan of his voice though.

It's like Anathema lite, so not quite stronger than The Optimist but very good.

Anekke is nice on the tracks she sings on too.

For me, The Optimist was a major disappointment. I enjoy the 1st half of the album but then I feel it just drags on. Endless Ways is my favorite song of the album and might be one of or my favorite song off the Anathema catalog.

For anyone interested, here's my take on Danny's solo: https://www.musicalypse.net/2017-daniel-cavanagh-monochrome-english/ It came out of nowhere, but it's actually one of my favorite albums of the year and my favorite release from him since WHBWH.
