Seventh Wonder Appreciation
« on: October 18, 2011, 05:49:08 PM »
I searched around for them here, I didn't find a topic for this band.

I simply loved Mercy Falls. A great concept album about a man who dreams up another world in his comatose state.

Tommy's vocals are great and Johan and Andreas drive the music with excellent chops on bass and guitar. I really enjoy this band

Check out the album Mercy Falls if you haven't heard them. I still need to check out The Great Escape

YES. Seventh Wonder are amazing, Tommy has some of the best vocals I've heard in progressive metal.

I personally like The Great Escape just a tad bit more than Mercy Falls, but they both own. However, the title track of TGE is probably one of the best songs I've ever heard.

That's what I keep hearing. I have only heard snippets of TGE. I need to check it out badly

Yeah, the title track has some of the greatest melodies ever written. I've listened to it like 70 times and it's a 30 minute song, haha.

Every track on TGE is pretty great, though.

Unbreakable was the song that got me into these guys, though-- if anyone wants to get a good general idea of their sound, that's a pretty good one, I'd say.

I'm not sure which album I prefer, they are both really killer.  Anyone who loved Mercy Falls needs to check out TGE.  The title track is excellent, a very well done song considering its length.
Everyone else, except Wolfking is wrong.

Oh, I love Seventh Wonder. TGE is a masterpiece, one of the best prog metal albums I've ever heard. I was initially reluctant to listen to them because EVERYONE hypes the heck out of them and whenever that happens to me, I usually wind up being let down-but they lived up to the hype. Great band.

Same here, though I really think Mercy Falls is a bit average. Great playing, great singer, but nothing on that album really popped at me. Been meaning to check out the other releases but the local record store never restocked any of their albums. =\
Hire me. I'm talentless but malleable.

A really great band, and my favourite song of theirs is the one you posted in the OP, Welcome To Mercy Falls.

I love Mercy Falls. As far as initial reactions go, I think they're one of the top 20 bands I've encountered when judging that initial "ooohh....aaahhh" factor. The album is full of beautiful melodies and machinelike tightness by the musicians and the storyline is quite the tearjerker indeed. Only hangup for me was that the voice acting during the brief interludes fell extremely short of doing the music and storyline its true justice. Some of it flat-out reeked of them just throwing some random people they knew into the mix.

Count me as a fan. Mercy Falls is very good. Wasn't as impressed with the latest album though. Not sure why. Maybe I just didn't give it enough plays.

I wasn't too crazy about it either.  So it's not just you.  Songs seemed a bit....disjointed, though not "bad" per se.....still a good album, but I like the other two better.

Tommy Karevik *might* be a guest vocalist on my band's next album.  Timing of the recording sessions is a bit of a hurdle, but we're working on it.

Seventh Wonder is pretty good, but there's just something missing, I can't put my finger on it.
would have thought the same thing but seeing the OP was TAC i immediately thought Maiden or DT related

Have you listened to their 30 minute title track The Great Escape? That's probably what's missing. It's the greatest thing they've ever composed.

Ya know, I checked these guys out on a recommendation, and they just didn't do it for me. Talented for sure, but just sounded like another run-of-the-mill prog metal band.

I like Waiting in the Wings, it's got a lot of good stuff on it. Nowhere as good as MF or TGE, but still really solid stuff.

Didn't realise there was a thread for this band. One of my absolute favourites.

^ Basically this.

Just been listening to The Great Escape (album) and am halfway through Mercy Falls, which prompted me to search for this thread. Mercy Falls is an amazing album and I didn't think they would ever make an album better than it, but since TGE's title track alone takes me on a journey almost as much as Mercy Falls, I think I have to hand it to TGE. The rest of the songs on the album are just like the icing on the cake - even though they're all also great and would make up a decent album (close to the level of WITW) if they were on the album alone.

Also, just recently found the full version of In The Blink Of An Eye (2011). It's great to hear some new (to me, since I never really listen to Become) Seventh Wonder.

I've got Mercy Falls and The Great Escape and I love both of those albums but I still need to complete my collection of albums with Tommy as vocalist. Too much good music being released and old music being reissued!
At some point, I also plan on getting a shirt from their official store to show my support.

The more that I listen to SW, the more I'm convinced that they're the absolute best 2nd-tier progressive metal band.

To say that Tommy can sing his fucking ass off is an understatement.
