Just picked up The Great Escape the other day, really good stuff.
Mercy Falls next. Cool story and cool music

I've had Mercy Falls playing on repeat the last few days. I really LOVE the vocals.

It was the vocals that came first for me and then I started to really analyze the story. It's pretty deep and intricate. I talk about it too much though

The more that I listen to SW, the more I'm convinced that they're the absolute best 2nd-tier progressive metal band.

To say that Tommy can sing his fucking ass off is an understatement.

If they continue releasing albums like their last three, I see no reason why they wouldn't be #1 in their genre; they've got what it takes I'd say.

How would you guys rank the albums? I have only listened to Mercy Falls extensively, but what I have heard of the other ones sound good as well.

The Great Escape
Mercy Falls
Waiting in the Wings
Become

...so, I think they've improved with every release.

I just realized that The Great Escape was 30 minutes long. I can't believe I haven't heard this yet!

Just finished the song in its entirety. What an adventure. Needless to say, it's going to take a lot more than one listen before I can say I truly comprehend it.

The Great Escape
Mercy Falls
-
Waiting In The Wings
-

Become

Since the vocals are such an important part of why the band is good, their first album without Tommy doesn't come close to the others, although the songs on it all sound pretty good in themselves and the instrumentation is still top notch. Waiting In The Wings is great - all three albums with Tommy are of a similarly high standard - it just lacks something special to put it on the same level as the other two albums imo. The Great Escape and Mercy Falls are just awesome - I'd favour TGE over MF but they're both around the same level.

And yeah, The Great Escape title track is one of my favourites ever, and pretty much why TGE is my favourite album by them. I know lots of people don't like really long songs but even though TGE is the longest single track I own it never feels too long to me - I think it really works for the song.

What really strikes me about the music is that it is very intricate, layered, tightly woven, and the product of great musicianship, all while being very easy to listen to. It is as 'catchy' as prog metal can get, I think. Plus, of course, the vocals!

Yeah, absolutely fantastic band. Both musically and personally. I started listening to them like a year after Become came out; loved it back then! Then they released WITW and I attended their release party and was blown away.... and they keep doing that to me on every new release. Just love the vocals, all the melodies and of course, Andreas's bass playing.

They guys are from around where I live, so it's not rare to see them at different shows or around town.

SW are greatly underrated and under appreciated by the masses.
Even on this forum and Portnoy's, they rarely get a mention.

I'd love to see them touring in the United States, even if it's just as an opener.

Mostly due to the fact that on this forum, dedicated to a Prog Metal band, most of the members here hate Prog Metal, and Seventh Wonder are often criticized for being "cookie-cutter" Prog Metal.

Prog Metal.

I only have the album with the spider on the cover, but compared to the rest of my prog metal catalog it doesn't really stand out.  I suspect there are others who agree with me but are just too polite to speak up.

To be honest, I think Mercy Falls is a bit better than The Great Escape. Definitely some of the best progressive metal I have heard.

I honestly like The Great Escape more than most of DT's recent output, it's just a breath of fresh air in progressive metal in my opinion. Definitely one of the standout bands of the genre. I haven't listened to them in a while, but still, they're awesome.

Sure.  I haven't checked out their first two yet.  Think I'll do that today.

Yes. Waiting In The Wings is good but Mercy Falls and TGE are on another level.

They are one of the rare "cookie cutter" prog metal bands I even listen to. Maybe it's because I ran into them back when I was expanding my prog metal knowledge from just DT (early 2010 it was), but I would rather believe it's because they kick serious ass. I adore them.

"Seventh Wonder studio update:

What´s up, friends of SW worldwide!

This is Stefan checking in to share some of the stuff going on at SW headquarters at the moment. As you all know, Tommy is currently tearing up the road with Kamelot in the US, having a blast and scoring loads of new SW fans in the process! Awesome!

Meanwhile Andreas, Johan, Kyrrt and myself are hard at work on the follow up to “The great escape”, trading riffs, throwing out ideas, arranging parts and even full songs and demoing like crazy. Tommy left some great stuff for us to dig into and we´ve also written a bunch of tracks based on each of our individual ideas. Being the new guy, I´m thrilled to be part of this creative process. I mean, the level of musicianship with these guys is mindblowing, yet much of the stuff I´ve been presented with, while seemingly impossible to pull off at first, is so clever and well written that it makes sense musically right off the bat. I guess that´s part of the magic of SW music that I fell in love with when I first joined the band. The new music is definitely very progressive and melodic and totally in the vein of the last couple of albums, but you´ll also find it´s heavier than before…
We cannot wait to share it with you guys!

Stay tuned…

/Stefan"

I met those guy in Norway back in 2010. It was a weird experience. I had become a huge fan by then, and I randomly found out on facebook that they were doing a gig at a bar in Oslo. I was drunk and really excited, but when I arrived, there was only like 30 people in the crowd and the rest of the bar consisted of regular guests that was there for a drink and not the concerts.... So when I met them after the concert and told them how much I listens to them, Tommy seemed really amazed that there were fans like me out there.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qlYvfoSKwhk here's a clip from the gig.

They are now in my top 5 bands, and been that since my first listen. My biggest concern with SW is their lyrics actually, even though I don't care that much, some of them are just way too cheesy in every kind of way.

I actually think that WITW is my favorite album among them, I really enjoy the vocals on that album, particularly The Edge of My Blade

Yeah, the lyrics can be kind of cheesy, but the story of Mercy Falls, to me, is really great and the lyrics really aren't that bad. The doctor's acting though,  :\

My favorite lyrics are still TGE's title track. I love the story that's based on.
