Genres: Rap, Metal
Skindred - "Pressure"
I had a good laugh when you originally picked this because not only does it exist as a genre but it's one of the least liked genres in terms of people who take music seriously. As for the song itself I kind of got a Stone Temple Pilot/Incubus vibe off the vocals and I definitely see what you mean by it being more reggae than rap. So it does cover the metal part but yeah I dunno if it's truly rap in that respects. I'll give it a partial pass since it does sound a little like what most would consider rap metal but on a whole not really my thing.
Ravenheart
Genres: Country, Metal
Desperadoz - "Rawhide"
Metallica called, they want their singer back. But seriously you did get stuck with an interesting mix that, well, I'm sure there are bands out there but I can't think of really any. You did get both genres in one place but unfortunately this really wasn't my cup of tea. Sent out of necessity, I know, but hey at least you got something in!
Gorille85
Genres: Indie, Rock
Bright Eyes - "Bowl of Oranges"
Well didn't you luck out! I've always heard of Bright Eyes but never got a chance to listen to them until now. A nice little folky and what people would consider "indie" sound though I didn't get too much of the rock. I guess I was expecting more of an alternative rock kinda thing for this but the song wasn't bad. I definitely want to go back and check out the lyrics since I got a good vibe from the few passages I did manage to listen real close to.
Nekov
Genres: Electronica, Metal
Moonlight Comedy - "The Sea And Time In Mars"
This did well in having elements of both of the genres. For a while there I thought the traditional prog metal synths were the "electronica" but some of the breakdowns proved otherwise. The guitar actually played some interesting lines though the tone was a little too "tin can" sounding for me. The voice overs were a bit strange but the song didn't seem to take itself too seriously so I didn't mind. A little too all over the place but it packed quite a decent little punch.
Perpetual Change
Genres: Rap, Reggae
Nas and Damien Marley - "Friends"
Coming from someone who doesn't really dabble in either genre too seriously I can almost see this one being tough and easy at the same time. From the get go the beat sounds exactly like what a perfect harmony between the two, real laid back but powerful on the back end. What's so funny about this song is that when Damien Marley is singing it sounds reggae and when Nas is spittin' it sounds like a rap song. Overall I dig the song, not something I'd listen to all the time but I'm always looking for something chill like this.
MasterShakezula
Genres: Jazz, Classical
Modern Jazz Quartet - "Sketch"
Well wasn't this an odd pairing considering both styles share the same techniques of music but often in different directions. I must say that the whole concept of the song, jazz in the left channel and classical in the right, turned out really cool. I wasn't too sure how this was going to go together until around the middle when the two sides were playing off of each other and damn it was rather awesome. Very good job.
antigoon
Genres: Jazz, Electronica
Jaga Jazzist - "Airborne"
Man, this was just up my alley. More jazz than electronica but the constant pulsing beat made it work just right. There's nothing really more I can say about this song other than the layers that work on top of each other in the middle of the song and the explosion towards the end come across as awesomely slick and just plain enjoyable.
