Evanescence Thread
« on: October 09, 2011, 12:01:14 PM »
Here I am!

But seriously, Discuss all things Evanescence. I've actually been meaning to make this thread for a while now. Doubt it will be successful, but I'm going to make one lucky forum member's dream come true!

Besides The Open Door which was 98% crap, Evanescence has one hell of an arsenal of songs. Amy Lee Somethingorother has an amazing voice and her new band mates sound pretty good too.

The new self titled album is great, and I'm glad the band was able to pick itself up again. They almost did what their band name suggests. Evanescence isn't the drippings from Cristina Scabbia's tampon as someone here said...  :\ ... But just the opposite. Regardless of which band started first, Lacuna Coil is mostly boring, while Evanescence, despite having one stinker of an album, is chock full of great memorable melodies, music, and wonderful singing. Even their demos are awesome. So enough of that pointless comparison.

If you haven't already, check out the new CD. Life finds a way. It comes out 10/11/11 though.

*fantasizes about Cristina Scabbia and Amy Lee [Insert second last name here]*

I dug their first album, but they get old somewhat quickly. Bring Me to Life was a pretty good song, despite being played way too many times.

There's so many videos of me and 2 or 3 friends singing Bring Me to Life that it's unreal.

I make no apologies for loving their first album but haven't cared for anything since then. I'm surprised at the kind words for their latest OP.

They're all on my friend's Facebook profile. I have one but I haven't put it on YouTube yet.

Also, I'm the only one who knows all the words. The only time we're all singing together is at "SAAAAAVE MEEEE" :lol

Which album are people referring to when they say "first"?

Origin is a pretty decent album, nothing mindblowing and the production was a little weak, but it has some nice ideas and quite a bit of variety.

Fallen is much slicker and has some really excellent songs, but as a whole it gets a bit samey after a while, as all the songs are so similar.

I know it's cool to hate on it, but I like The Open Door as well. Not as consistent as Fallen but again they brought the variety back which I liked.

I haven't heard the new one yet, but I'll check it out.

Ariich is a freak, or somehow has more hours in the day than everyone else.

What You Want hasn't exactly wowed me.

Anywhere may be the best song they'll ever write.

I really liked Fallen, I haven't heard The Open Door, and I heard a bit of the new album today and it sounded very promising.

What You Want is the worst song on S/T, and the other songs don't sound like that.

Understanding is my favorite song of theirs, and Anywhere is up there too.

Love this band, have for years!  I don't get the hate on TOD, I think it's a solid album along with Fallen.  I probably prefer it to Fallen.

Can't wait to hear the new album, it's been a hell of a long time coming.

I don't think either are that amazing, but for their time (when they came out, my age at the time) they both had me coming home happy.

You're absolutely right. I Played the shit out of Fallen for a long time  when it came out and once I found the demos, that album drifted away somewhat and I fell in love with those. I think most of their demo material is better than any of their officially released stuff. Fallen still holds up well though, although it's a bit samey in terms of riffs, but that's something I noticed when the album came out.

Lacuna Coil was a band recommended to me saying they were better than Evanescence, so I bought all their albums, and I just wasn't impressed. I listened to Comalies a few times, and tried the others but nothing really interested me. I tried listened to Comalies again several months ago and not even the singles were that great to me.

Cold Heritage is the only song I have currently on my computer. That's a good song.

The first half of Fallen is fantastic, the second half is okay. The Open Door doesn't do anything for me at all, unfortunately. Still looking forward to the new one, though.

I think Fallen is pretty consistent the whole way through. Whisper and My Last Breath are two of the best songs on the CD.

The Origin version of Whisper is far superior to the Fallen one imo.

I never really cared for the demos from Fallen. I'm sure it's just 'cause I've the album versions though.

Ironically (or something) I probably wouldn't like the demo songs if they were re-recorded.

I really like it. More variety than Fallen, but more consistent quality than The Open Door. Probably the best thing they've done.

The drummer, Will Hunt is incredibly fun to watch. Looks like he's having an absolute blast.

Never payed much attention to them, but I liked Origin a lot. Fallen had some good songs but I remember it being completely forgettable aside from Amy's voice; and I haven't really heard anything from their new album (Not even the singles), might check them later.

And in regards to the OP, I doubt anything Evanescence will ever do is gonna top Unleashed Memories and/or Comalies. Shallow Life sucked, and as with Evanescence I haven't checked Lacuna Coil's new material.
