very detailed/extensive interview with Kimbra about her new record and all the collaborations

"to collaborate on the record includes pop iconoclasts (Daniel Johns, Dirty Projectors’ Dave Longstreth, Unknown Mortal Orchestra’s Ruban Neilson); abstract beat wizards (Flying Lotus, Thundercat); progressive rock heroes (Mars Volta’s Omar Rodriguez-Lopez and Deantoni Parkes, members of Dillinger Escape Plan and Queens of the Stone Age); seductive soul singers (Bilal, John Legend); and the undefinable and legendary composer Van Dyke Parks. And just because that’s not quite enough musical prowess to feature on one album, Prince’s New Power Generation keyboardist Morris Hayes and John Robinson"

It was very different but no way awful, I liked it a lot especially after few listens.

I'm looking forward to this album so much, I'm sure that there will be even bigger surprises than this song on it and I mean it in a good way :)

It feels like she has made it a thing for this album to have a guest artist in each song. It's never a bad idea to surround yourself with talent, I just hope the guest appearances doesn't become the focal point of the album, and that the songs actually hold up quality-wise.

Bump bump bump.

Love in High Places is so freaking good, its taken the spot as my number one Kimbra song.  And the new lyric video is amazing.  Can't wait for this album.

Yes, just listened to this last night.  I feel like its a grower, much like 90s Music was.  Love in High Places is still definitely the standout for me.

"90's Music" last night on David Letterman.

Saw her last week in Minneapolis, some of the new tracks are better live. Her band is pretty boss.

Vows was one of my favourite albums in recent years, but I’ve still not given this a try, beyond the first 3 or so promo songs. 90s Music was absolute shite, and the others I just didn’t care about, so the album plummetted out of my priority list.

90s Music is definitely a grower.  While I don't enjoy this as much as Vows, it's still a fantastic album in its own right.

"As You Are" with Van Dyke Parks..amazing version.

Beautiful song, and that was an astounding version.  Van Dyke Parks is a freaking genius; he scored Ys by Joanna Newsom, my favourite album ever, and this version has a real similar vibe, such beautiful orchestration.

True this! Van Dyke Parks is fantastic on most everything he does, and his work on Ys really makes it extra special (awesome to hear its your favourite, it's one of my top 5 of all time for sure).

Agree with you that 90s Music is a grower too. I don't enjoy Golden Echo quite as much as Vows, but it's still incredible. Like a 10/10 vs. 9/10 kind of thing.

Van Dyke is amazing, although with Ys, I just can't get past Joanna's voice to enjoy her music unfortunately.

As far as The Golden Echo, I don't prefer it to Vows (2011), but I still love most of it including 90's music...Madhouse, Miracle, Teen Heat, Nobody But You, Goldmine...

The only songs I DON'T dig on Golden Echo are Madhouse and Nobody but You.  Everything else is pretty stellar, Love in High Places is my absolute favourite on the album, and maybe even my top Kimbra track.

Van Dyke is amazing, although with Ys, I just can't get past Joanna's voice to enjoy her music unfortunately.

Yeah, her voice is definitely the biggest hurdle when it comes to that album.  I had grown accustomed to it after thrashing Milk-Eyed Mender, and her tone on Ys is a big step up from that album - just as Have One On Me is a tonal improvement on Ys.  Ys is beautiful beyond description in my eyes/ears.

I love The Golden Echo. IMO it's easily on par with Vows. I might still rank Vows higher by just an inch, but I think it's more for nostalgic reasons than anything else, it being my first Kimbra album.

Love that I can go on this forum and you'll find most any type of music fan on here. I think it really also speaks to the range and draw that Dream Theater has in their repertoire.

I went to a concert with my lady recently, and absolutely fell in love with Kimbra. One of the most genuine and charismatic performers out there. She is a very open minded listener, and it definitely shows in The Golden Echo. Both of her backing bands are also excellent.

If you didn't catch her on this, her first headlining tour, you missed a real treat. I'm finding it really difficult not to be totally intoxicated by her. Definitely a lifelong fan. Very excited to see what she does next!  :heart

Last week at Coachella:

And she doesn excellent covers:
