This is a debut record that was to be released in September, but was pushed back due to needing to find a record label to release it at the right time. It's being released on February 1st, but I've already had the chance to listen to it, and it's awesome. It likely would have finished #2 on my 2010 had it come out, but as a result, it's my top record for 2011 at this point.

Here's the review I just posted:

https://allmediareviews.blogspot.com/2011/01/hotel-of-laughing-tree-terror-and.html

you can listen to "Bad Canterbury" (maybe the best track on the album) and some other tracks on their facebook page
https://www.facebook.com/hotelofthelaughingtree

People into The Dear Hunter especially, are really going to want to check this album out as it's stood the test of time for me. It's catchy, it's riffy, it's inspiring, it's varied, and it's progressive.

I got Old Dominion when it came out.  Pretty decent band, though I hope they begin to find a sound of their own as they progress.

This will be my first album of 2011 and now seeing your review I'm pretty excited to check it out soon  ;D

this is a lot better than Old Dominion. Old Dominion had some moments, but this new record is a lot more polished and consistent. And the songwriting is frankly, a lot better.

I mean is it a lot more original? I dunno, but it's definitely more successful in combining influences. Old Dominion at times seemed almost blatantly trying to sound like The Dear Hunter. Also AJ sang with a lisp at times on that record, which may have bugged some people. You don't really hear that much if at all on Terror and Everything After.

I'll actually correct what i wrote earlier.
I couldn't actually find this new album anywhere on the internet, but i did get Old Dominion. (mixed it up and thought that was the new, for some reason)
Haven't heard it yet though.  :P

well "Old Dominion" has some good stuff on it, but I as I posted earlier in this topic, this album is a very big step-up for the band compared to that 1st ep of theirs.

Anyway, samples from every track are up now

I think he goes to Fordham, so that makes sense.  I'm hitting the release party show tomorrow night on Long Island.  Looking forward it.  (Can't beat the price - $10 for a pre-order of the album AND admission to the show).

It's real good stuff. And yeah, I go to Fordham University in the Bronx. I'm gonna have to go back to that building later to make sure I'm not crazy :lol

Buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuump.

Seeing them live in a few days.  First time seeing them since the album release party back in February.  So excite.

Also - if you still haven't checked this band out, WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?!?

Go watch this video like... right now (and the astute observer may even spot me in the crowd once or twice) - https://exposureroom.com/members/JCastilloFilms/aa8d8bd41f1e4c19841f913bf899e744/

Sweet!  Saw this when it was posted but totally forgot about it.  I haven't seen them playing any local shows lately.  Hopefully they get out and start playing again.

heard the EP, and it's pretty good. "Brotherly Thunder" probably being the best on 1st impression.

As far as playing shows, they probably will play some live shows, but it doesn't seem they will tour much based on their update from last week.

Hotel now consists of 4 members. These 4 members have been working on an EP for the good part of a year. Progress has been slow due to many factors. Mainly personal lives getting in the way, but also our complete jadedness towards the music industry in general. We've seen a lot of talented musical acts get the shaft in the past few years due to the fickleness of this unforgiving machine. I don't think it's any secret that the music industry is in chaos in it's present form. It's made us question if we really want to be a part of it.

At this point, we really don't even have all the answers as to what we want to do. We know we are done caring about record and merch sales, touring in a van that breaks down more oft than not, playing in venues that time has forgotten. We don't mean to sound unappreciative. We love you guys SO much. Maybe we lack the drive these days. Maybe adulthood has made us more logical and less passionate. Maybe we just don't really enjoy it. We're not charismatic, rockstar-esque . Half of us play video games over the weekends and have modest social lives. We enjoy simple things and the potential glamour that so many chase is not something we really desire. This band started because we wanted to write music that we enjoyed and would hope others enjoyed as well. You can lose track of that after awhile. We certainly have. And it made us hide.

new EP is streaming and for sale (name your own price). It's pretty sweet, and in a lot of ways, a continuation of Terror.

Brotherly Thunder is kinda epic.

This is a band that I really should like, but for some reason can't get into. I'm not sure what it is about them that just doesn't click with me.

possibly the vocals? AJ Estrada does have, or rather HAD a little bit of a *lisp* but it was way more apparent on their 1st EP "Old Dominion" than even on "Terror and Everything After" and their recent music.

I guess I can relate, as some bands I should like, like Arcade Fire or Secret Machines (or The Flaming Lips, Radiohead and others whose lead singer kills their music for me), but they just leave me thinking there's something missing in their music, even though on paper, they have elements that I enjoy in music and should like them.

super old bump.

They just remastered their 2nd album, and it sounds like they may have more plans (new music?).

Friends! We have crawled out of our seemingly infinite hibernation and have some new things to share! More on that later.. but first, something old that required dusting off.
.
New World Sundown has been remastered and is now available on all the familiar listening places! 🎧 Originally recorded in 2015, this was our first self produced album and most educational project as far as learning how to “be a band” goes. Lately, there’s been a lot of re-evaluating, re-listening and reflecting happening here so I suppose we felt this may benefit from a remaster. It now happily exists with the sonic fullness we previously strived for, so let us know what you think!
.
More to share soon. All the love - thanks for sticking with us 💛
