All this hype about the new Mastodon inspired me to rediscover these guys. Really heavy and sludgy riffs, but also really beautiful at times with lots of proggy influences. If you're a Mastodon fan, you'll almost certainly like them.

First Album: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_zu3lfaSJcY

Second Album: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2eH13VblQfI&feature=related

Also DAT ARTWORK.
I only like ablums that I can xanascholithoun.

FINALLY. JOHN BAIZLEY  :metal
I love this band, the guitar tones are fucking incredible and I can't wait for their third sometime early next year.
I don't know if I could pick my favorite of the two so far, both are just incredible.
He also did Kvelertak's artwork and does all of Black Tusk's artwork.

I loved Blur Record at first, but then grew tired of it. Red Album is pretty awesome, though.

Theres an event on LFM saying they are playing Glasgow as part of the European tour in July, but it's not mentioned on their official site. Not that it matters, as I'm on holiday at the time  :'(

Recently got into these guys.

Then I saw them tonight with Meshuggah. It was great! Can't wait for Yellow and Green.

I just listened to these guys for the first time. It literally sounded exactly like Mastodon.

Whew, I'm going to have to disagree with you, especially the The Blue Album, they're very set apart to me.

Agreed with the post above.  If anything, Baroness came out making their sound more accessible to casual metal listeners on The Blue album while Mastodon was going concept album-crazy with Crack The Skye.  I only remembered that because I saw both bands a few weeks from each other when they came around town to play.

It isn't surprising either that the two bands share a similar sound.  They both came from the same Georgia metal/hardcore scene.  They've shared bills quite a bit.

Dark Castle and I can't be the only two people here with the new double album Yellow & Green.  We just can't be.

I'm enjoying the new album, and the slightly different direction of it.  Not as sludgy, but I think they're showcasing more musical creativity than they have previously.

New albums is amazing for sure. I'm digging Yellow right now more than Green, but Green does have some pretty awesome songs on it. Love the production on the album as well.

Cocanium is an instant favorite for me.

If I were to rate Yellow and Green separately, I'd give Yellow a 10/10, and Green a good solid 8/10.  Green seems to be more experimental than Yellow, and I appreciate that, but Yellow is so beautiful and I can't find anything wrong with it, that and it's the one I come back to the most.  What I'm most glad about though is that people really have reason to insinuate that Baroness is just a carbon copy of Mastodon, they're carving their own path, and it's a beautiful path to walk down.

Guess I'll have to give these guys another shot, because my first impression of them was, in fact, Mastodon clone, but perhaps that was too hasty.

So what are some favorite songs guys?
From Yellow my favorites would have to be
- March To The Sea
- Little Things
EDIT: - Twinker, IT'S SO HAUNTING AND BEAUTIFUL
- Cocanium
- Back Where I Belong
- Sea Lungs

Yellow absolutely blows me away, but those are my most favorite  :yarr
I need to give Green a few more extended listens before I could pick my favorite tracks, but I'll have to figure out how to take Yellow out of my cd player and record player  :lol

I'm having a hard time deciding if I like the new album better than Red and Blue.

Regardless, it's still amazing.

I like Yellow after one listen.  Some very good songs on there and quite a bit of variety too.  Green was sort of... there.  I need more listens but I was less immediately impressed with it.

Favorite Songs So Far:
Green Theme
Take My Bones Away
Sea Lungs
Cocainium
March To The Sea

That was a great song. Seems a little heavier than anything on Yellow and Green. Preordered and can't wait for this album.

Actually, this just makes me want to listen to some more Baroness.

New album comes out Friday.  Why they would release it this late in the year is beyond me.  I would have sat on it for a month and released it in January so you get immediate sales, as well as any at the end of the year when people make their top 10 lists.

Yeah it's a bit strange of a release date. My plan for Baroness is to get Red next anyways, and I'll end up getting Blue and Purple eventually
