...must refrain from disparaging remarks about MP's absence being evident in the drum mix.

Maybe, um...it would be a good idea for them to have an outside producer to objectively assess the mic setup next time? Hmmmm, why yes, that's a capital idea, wonder why no one has suggested that before?

Oh..my..god! The drums sound friggin awesome! Very musical. The drum stem can be thought of as its own song in its self.  :metal

Also the bass stems seems to sound a bit sloppy at parts with Myungs playing.

Myung sounds a little sloppy on his own in the BCASL stems too, but he sounds fine altogether with the band. Every instrument has its little problems like that when you hear it isolated, because you're able to scrutinize it more. As long as it sounds tight as a band, it's all good.

Started to do a little mixing to them.  I was surprised at a few things about the stems.

- How dynamic the stems are.
- How processed JLB's vocals sound
- How freaking amazing the drums sound isolated.  It sounds like there is triggering for the snare and bass drums.  The snare sounds amazing and the snare reverb is outstanding.
- How many effects are in JM's bass sometimes.
- How calm some of Rudess's keys are over some insane sections.

So far all I've done is punch up and compress JM's bass a lil bit to really make it really groove with the song.  Added a lil high end to the drums, and some 4k to the guitars.  Then just leveled them out to taste.  Really liking it!

Does anybody have any recommendations to help me out? I select CD and then it just loads for an eternity.

I'd test it out in various browsers. I'm on OS X and it wouldn't work in Safari after installing the Java updates, but it worked no problem in Google Chrome.

You gotta put your disc in the drive.  Then refresh the page and start over again.

I've tried Chrome, Firefox, and Safari. I could only get to the download with Firefox (the other browsers failed validating), but when I'd start downloading, there would be a server error.

EDIT: From the FAQ:
Quote
What is the recommended browser?

On a PC with Windows we recommend you use Internet Explorer 7 or above, but it will work with Mozilla Firefox 3.0 and above too, providing you have Java enabled. On a Mac, we recommend Safari 3 or above, Firefox 3 is also supported. Make sure with Firefox that you are always updated to the latest version, it should do this automatically, please check your version by selecting 'Help' on the Firefox menu and then 'About Mozilla Firefox'. The widget will not work in Chrome, Opera or Safari on the PC or Opera or IE on the MAC.

EDIT 2:
Hooray! Downloaded started. Bedtime now. I'll probably start transcribing OTBOA.

The FAQ doesn't help me. My cookies are enabled and i've tried inserting the CD and refreshing the page for like twenty different combinations with no luck. It just loads for an eternity after I select CD. I can enter my email and select CD or iTunes, but then it just doesn't go any further than that. It's pissing me off.

I'm wondering if they will release the stem tracks for each song off the album one at a time over a period of days or weeks. That would be phenomenal! :2metal:

I don't know about on ADTOE, but people were speculating about triggered drums on Elements of Persuasion, and Richard Chycki said that, no, Mangini is just that consistent.

What is a triggered snare? Does it just mean it's electronic?

Finally got it to validate and listening now.
JR's stems are always amazing and I enjoy listening to them in isolation more than the other instruments.
Didn't like the drum sound at all. Kick sounds so feeble!

That's great news! Stems were the only thing missing from this release and I loved the BC&SL ones! Can't wait to play with them myself and hear what people can do with them who are much more professional than I am - it would be great if you guys could post your mixes here.

So... what is a stem?

Individual instrument tracks.

I tried getting downloading the bonus tracks from the new Opeth album that uses a widget just like that one and it just stood there with the "plug-in downloading" screen, even after updating java in both IE and Chrome.  They really could find some other way to do this other than that damn widget.

I REALLY don't like this setup. I uninstalled Java for a very specific reason. I'm not reinstalling it so I can get these stems and the MP3s of the new Opeth's bonus tracks.

So... what is a stem?

Something you should avoid smoking OR separate channels for each instrument(alist) that are used to build the final cut of a song. If you have software like some of us do, you can load all of the channels and manipulate them separately to create your own limited mix.

Been trying for two days now and I still can't get the stems.  >:( Whenever Roadrunner puts something up for download you pretty much know it's not going to work properly.

Weird, I'm using Chrome and it worked the first try for me just now.  Just got my CD delivered finally so I used that.

Oh wait, it requires Java? Damn, then I won't be able to get it. I purged my system of Java a long time ago, and have zero intention of ever putting it back. I wish they had included these in the boxset like last time. In fact, it's the only reason I bought the boxset last time, so they would have gained themselves an extra purchase.
