I ran the 5 tracks on my Sony Vegas to adjust all the tracks, and even pumping the drums up 7db over the rest of the mix to get better balance, they're still not great. When you listen to them the volume goes up and down and all over the place. I mean for a final drum mix I'm very underwhelmed. I'm a huge Mangini fan,but that's not doing the guy any justice. Sounds even worse when you can really hear it.  I held off criticizing the mix before, but man it's just not great. Even when you get the level up where it sounds good, it's just so uneven. Just a terrible master for the drum channel IMO.

I guess I also would have liked them to pick a track where Mangini was an animal. I mean there's a couple of tiny warp speed flourishes, but not like on the other tracks. Just my nitpicks, but I am very happy that they gave us the stems anyways, don't want to sound ungrateful because it was really nice of them anyways.

Interesting. You're saying that the drums are sometimes fine but they suddenly disappear, and you have to work hard to "trace" where they are? Because I was hearing something like that, but I didn't know if blame it on my headphones.

No I didn't say that but the volume of the drums is very inconsistant and it's not Mangini's dynamics. It's just like a bad recording to me. No punch. I also don't know what the deal is with all the reverb. There's no crispyness to the track. It doesn't seem like something that should happen with pros like that, but that's what I hear. It's definitely not your headphones IMO. Also, the reverb on the snare is ridiculous.

The vocals are pretty damn funny on their own... Would love to see the rest of the album made available.

It didn't work for me using IE9.  I used an old XP machine with an older version of IE and it needed Java installed.

Then it asked for my disk  . . . argh it's at home.  Guess I'll do this tomorrow.

It seems like people should avoid Chrome or Firefox if they're having problems.

I had no trouble at all downloading the stems... Just type in my e-mail address, click the option for 'purchasing a cd' and boom. It was a quick download too....
I must say I didn't think it would work. My boxset is still weeks away from being delivered and I bought a CD/DVD edition off of eBay.

I choose the 'purchasing a cd' option and then bam, the thing just constantly loads for an eternity. I have never gotten past this step for every time I tried to download the stems.

Don't want to start a quote train.
@ResultsMayVary - I can only guess I got in at the right time or something. The browser I'm using is Firefox by the way. The ZIP folder is about 600MBs in size so good luck.

:omg: at the keyboard stem. After hearing the keyboard stem on its own, I would now love to hear the keyboard stems for the other songs!

Wouldn't work in Safari. Tried 4 or 5 times. Ran no problem in chrome.

Also the bass stems seems to sound a bit sloppy at parts with Myungs playing.
You know while I don't entirely disagree, nobody would have ever said this about Myung before having heard the stems for BC&SL. I think in the context of Dream Theater his lose style fits very well in context of the bands sound. Not that I exactly disagree with the statement that the bass is sloppy, but even with bass pumping loudly in the mix on ADTOE, I would have never considered JMs playing to be sloppy.

Edit: Oh, and I'd pay for Dream Theater to sell the stem tracks for the entire album separately.

Some parts are pretty technical and other parts sound like he is fumbling around for the string.
