Or you could just get in the habit of quoting a post anyway. The few times I dare to respond to a post without quoting it are ALWAYS the times someone else replies inbetween.

And it's probably a lot of work for such a trivial feature.

Users have variable numbers of posts per page, so this is not something that easy to implmenet. As blob says, just get used to quoting.

I wasn't complaining about how it is now. It's a minor annoyance, but nothing serious. I was just wondering if something like that could be implemented. Suppose not - oh well.

If you're responding to the last post, it looks stupid to quote it, and is even frowned upon on some boards.  The only time it doesn't work is when there's a page-break in between.  Should people really get into the habit of quoting the post right above theirs when they reply just in case of a page break?

Well, if it bothers them then possibly. Myself, I just usually edit in a "@User" if I see that that the reply went to the next page.

Well, it's just as much for others as for the poster.  I usually edit in the quote to which I'm responding, so yeah, same idea.  But "@User" doesn't really give the context the same way the quote does, and quoting is actually faster/easier to do.  When you go to edit your post, the thread is all there, so you can just click "Insert quote".

Often times, I will quote a post that is the most recent one, but once I've posted it, if it is on the same page and it is obvious that I am replying to the most recent post besides mine, I'll edit my post and remove the quote.  The less clutter, the better.
