I've said it before and I'll say it again, I aim to be creepy.

Any other problems you want to discuss?

Yes, can you make sure I don't have to read about it in every fuckin thread I open?

Is it true that in the US, you don't learn to write in cursive?

In Germany, we actually have a few different ones (schools can decide which one to use):

These days a lot of school don't. Though anyone in their 20s or older likely did.

Mhmm. I had to learn it in elementary school (I'll be 21 this week) but I guess people just a few years younger than me were not taught to.

And it is kind of pointless, tbh. Aside from my signature (and the very rare time or two when I had to write out an "I agree with this" kind of statement on legal documents) I never use cursive. And to be honest, I can't even remember some of the "correct" ways to make some of the less-used capital letters, like Q or Y.

It's a hell of lot faster to write in cursive than printing, but given that we write so liitle and type so much these days, it's probably not all that important.

Yeah we started learning cursive in 2nd or 3rd grade. Periodically throughout school in the younger years teachers would sometimes require students to write in cursive, but when high school/college comes around, they don't care how you write, they just care about the substance of your writing. At least in my experience.

Anyway, my handwriting is sort of a messy printing/cursive hybrid. Some recent notes:

That sucks, if it is true. I learned it and still use it when necessary and can still do the whole alphabet.

Here's my attempt at cursive.

It's actually really neat by my standards, since I wanted to put some TLC into it for this fine group of older strangers on the internet.

I actually have a mild case of a condition known as Spatial Dysgraphia. It is a neurological disorder characterized by mixing of upper and lower case and print and cursive letters. My handwriting as a result is horrible. It always has been. In order to write properly by hand, it takes an extraordinary and time consuming effort. Basically, my hand writing looks horrible. That's it. My son's is the same way, and his doc thinks we both share this same condition, and were born with it.

When I consciously try to write neatly, it looks like the text in this: https://www.dreamtheaterforums.org/boards/index.php?topic=28146.0

But normal relaxed writing is more like:

(done using a tablet, but it's close enough to what my writing on paper is like)

Schools in NJ  (Elementary through High School) now require all work assignments be written with a computer and printed, so teachers don't have to decipher kids penmanship

Not something I am happy about since my kids writing looks like chicken scratch

Do they still teach handwriting?  This makes it sound like it's going the way of the dodo.
In high school my buddies and I built a Van Der Graaf generator.  You know, to get girls.

Not in my kids schools...my 2 olders sons had some penmanship classes when they were in elementary ( learning cursive etc....)  my youngest guy no such class
