Asian Horror Movies
« on: September 14, 2011, 11:47:42 PM »
It's my current obsession(besides ADTOE) ...any suggestions?  I'm watching all the decent ones that Netflix has to offer on streaming.  My favorite thus far is "A Tale of Two Sisters" ...would really appreciate any insight/suggestions in this genre as I feel I've barely grazed it.  Thanks  :tup

Watched A Tale of Two Sisters a few months back. Pretty good shit. I hear Thirst is good, as well. I think I have an image file with a list of great horror moves on Netflix instant. I'll see if I can dig that up.

Thanks!  I hear ATOTS gets better with several viewings.  It can get a bit confusing, so I'm interested to see it again.  Curious to see your findings on that image file!

Audition is a nice slow burn. Begins as a regular movie and slowly descends into horror

It's from a horror board. They're not all winners. The numbers are there because you're supposed to take the last two digits of your post and watch the movie that corresponds. So obviously they're not all great (Paranormal Activity) because not everyone can win/get a good movie.

I like those *looks for deviously evil smiley face but finds none*

Sweet Madgician!  Really appreciate it  :tup

Trust me I've realized one thing about this genre.  You always have to go through a couple of stinkers to find the winners.  I don't mind.  I can always at least laugh at the bad ones  :lol

@ Volk9, I'll be watching Audition tonight.  Will report back soon to my fellow Asian horror nerd friends  ;D

@ Mad, will check out Thirst directly after if I have time.  If not, then next time!  :D

I Saw the Devil.  Not traditional Asian horror, but it's really awesome.

I was very underwhelmed with Thirst.

I may have bad taste, but I did enjoy these   There's a couple of others I can't find right now...

...that one video that Juice posted.  The one with the girl practicing tennis.
"All great works are prepared in the desert, including the redemption of the world. The precursors, the followers, the Master Himself, all obeyed or have to obey one and the same law. Prophets, apostles, preachers, martyrs, pioneers of knowledge, inspired artists in every art, ordinary men and the Man-God, all pay tribute to loneliness, to the life of silence, to the night." - A. Painted Skin is more of a fantasy movie about demons, but I loved watching it even though I couldn't understand a thing.  Defintely a visual movie, from what I know it wasn't the greatest movie overall.  Even bought it despite the fact that there isn't even an official release with English subs.  Donnie Yen is awesome.

There was a thread on the paranormal/horror board of the site that shall not be named about great asian/slow/creepy horror movies. I'll form that into a coherent list and get that shit in here.

Edit:
Noroi
Session 9
Seventh Moon
The Baby's Room
Communion
The Entity
Audition
Whispering Corridors
Lake Mungo
Reincarnation
Ju On
One Missed Call
Cello
Kuchsaki Onna
Three Extremes
The Cure
Uzumaki
Dark Water
Infection
Let the Right One In
Antichrist
Stalker
Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives
Shutter
Silk
Kabe Otoko (wall man)
Arang
R-Point
The Red Shoes
The Eye (of course)
Isola
Creepy Hide and Seek
The Signal
The River

They're not all Asian, but they're all coming fairly highly recommended. There were a few more in the thread, too. The kind that didn't quite fit the description, but would generally go over well for people with similar tastes.

Thanks for all the great suggestions!!  So many to watch, so little time  :tup

Right now I'm finishing up a Korean "Dramedy" called "Lie To Me"(it's on NF streaming and awesome if you dig dramedies)...I know it's not horror but somehow I got hooked...damnit.

It's back to Asian Horror right after this, yagsog haeyo!
