UMH: Diablo Swing Orchestra - Balrog Boogie

Very cool song. Like the operatic style of vocals quite a bit. A friend of mine said the song reminded him of Bad Devil :lol

7 Points

LieLowTheWantedMan: Sleepytime Gorilla Museum - Phthisis

Definitely interesting and very cool. I liked the vocals a lot as well. Great tune :tup

6 Points

Kingshmegland: Sarah McLachlan - Possession

Beautiful song. I really loved the vocals. Very good.

5 Points

DTVT: Sleepytime Gorilla Museum - Angle of Repose

Weeee another band repeat :lol. I feel mostly the same way about this tune as the other SGM one, but I don't like it quite as much :lol

4 Points

PC: Billie Holiday - Lady Sings the Blues

Very nice song. I enjoyed it quite a bit. I really need to get into more jazz :lol

3 Points

Nic35: Unexpect - Orange Vigilantes

The musicianship is certainly impressive if a bit frantic. Never really been a fan of super super technical metal, though. When the clean vocals came in they were very nice.

2 Points

Cup: Talking Heads - Radio Head

I take it you didn't have anything with a female vocalist? Oh well. This song was definitely...interesting. I was asking for things with a vocal focus but unfortunately then vocals did not impress me overly :(

1 Point

Nekov: Illegal Aliens - Green Bomb

Unfortunately this song didn't really grab me at all. It was sort of bland.

19 - LieLowTheWantedMan
18 - DTVT
18 - kingshmegland
17 - Ultimetalhead
13 - Perpetual Change
11 - Nic35
6 - Cup
5 - Nekov

First off, quick question: Since we've had two rounds where I recieved the same band from two players, would you guys prefer if I asked for resubs in those instances?

Second, the theme for the next round: Heavy. Gimme what you got. This doesn't necessarily mean the heaviest song will win, they need to be good, too  :lol

Two songs from the same band in the same round is ok as long as it isn't the same song.  The second person shouldn't be punished for not checking the thread as often (some of us have jobs - so just because I can post doesn't mean I have access to my music library), or the second person shouldn't get a mulligan if two people send a band you end up not liking.

He might not have them all yet.

Also, he really shouldn't be judging on one listen.  When I ran mine, I listened to them all at least 5 times except for the long song round, and I still did those twice (including a 60 minute song).

I agree with this. I was wondering since the first three rounds were done really quickly and this one is taking much longer.

PC: Periphery - Letter Experiment

Fuck yes. This song was awesome. Instrumentally awesome, vocally awesome. Everything comes together extremely well and creates something totally kickass. What the fuck. Why haven't I heard this before?

7 Points

Kingshmegland: Karnivool - The Caudal Lure

This kinda reminds me of Tool (just at the beginning though), which is a good thing. This song was very cool and a great listen. Love the instrumental work, love the vocals, awesome.

6 Points

Nic35: Gojira - Oroborus

Love the opening riff, though it has a bit of an Opeth syndrome to it (that is the good riff repeats like ten times more than it ought to). Not super thrilled about the vocals but they work well with the music. This HO/PO riff is cool but they keep using it, like a lot :lol. Overall a very cool song.

5 Points

Nekov: Aghora - Moksha

Why didn't you send this during the ladies round? This is awesome :lol. I love the vocals and like with everything else in this round the instrumentals are great. Good stuff.

4 Points

LieLowTheWantedMan: Agalloch - Falling Snow

Well I like the music but I really can't stand black metal vocals. At least the production isn't atrocious which is more than I can say for most black metal. As much as I don't really like the vocals I feel like they compliment the music really well, which I guess is the point. Cool song.

3 Points

DTVT: Enslaved - Clouds

I saw these guys open for Opeth on the tour when they did that (2009?) and enjoyed it a lot at the time. This was a pretty good song. I enjoyed the instrumental work (I keep saying that) and the clean vocals, but as I mentioned with Agalloch I really can't stand Black Metal vocals. Other than that it was a good song.

2 Points

Cup: Helloween - Sole Survivor

Very cool song. Love all the instrumental work and the vocals are pretty cool. Cool cool everything is cool.

1 Points

UMH: Nevermore - River Dragon Has Come

Definitely liked the instrumental work on this song but I really didn't like the vocals. They reminded me of Iced Earth, but in a bad way :lol. Awesome solo. Pretty good song.

So as you can probably tell from my commentaries I actually really enjoyed all the submissions this round, but hey, someone's gotta win and someone's gotta lose.

25 - kingshmegland
23 - LieLowTheWantedMan
21 - DTVT
21 - Perpetual Change
18 - Ultimetalhead
17 - Nic35
10 - Nekov
8 - Cup

Alright round 5: Instrumentals. And none of this boring Metallica version of instrumentals where they just write a song and forget to add lyrics, I want something good  :lol

That's twice I promised results soon when I was still missing a song  :lol. I'll try to stop.

8 Points

LieLowTheWantedMan: Sigur Ros - Untitled 3

I tried checking out Sigur Ros before and I wasn't really blown away by it. This song on the other hand was really beautiful. I love how the song centers around this simple piano melody that keeps repeating as the rest of the song gets more and more intense. It sort of makes me feel like, if this were a movie then this would play as the main character gets shot and lies bleeding out in the snow, and the white snow slowly turns red and the camera is above him and slowly zooming out as it fades to black. That shot is what this song made me feel. I don't know if that makes any fucking sense.

7 Points

Perpetual Change: Anathema - 2000 & Gone

Anathema is a band I've been meaning to check out due to the glowing reviews they get around these parts, but I sort of hold a grudge against them because I wanted to start a band called Anathema when I was like 14, and I even drew a cool logo for it and I was sorta heartbroken when I found out it was already a band. So, about the song itself. I enjoyed it a lot. Very beautiful. I really liked how they used the guitar, both with the clean riff and the distorted wailing kinda stuff going on overtop of it. Me gusta.

6 Points

DTVT: Scale the Summit - The Levitated

I enjoyed Carving Desert Canyons a lot but I didn't know they had a new album. I was very impressed by this song. It was very groovy and sort of dreamy? I guess is the word I would use to describe it while still being pretty technical. Good stuff.

5 Points

Nic35: The Ocean - Wille Zum Untergang

I really enjoyed this song. From the pretty mellow beginning as it builds up to a pretty intense climax...overall very cool.

4 Points

Nekov: Riverside - Lucid Dream IV

Pretty good song. Sort of reminded me of how DT or LTE do instrumentals, which was good. Not really much more to say about it at the moment.

3 Points

Cup: Chick Corea - Crystal Silence

This song was kinda weird but nice. Not a huge fan of saxophone in general but they used it pretty well here (assuming that is a saxophone I'm hearing, Wikipedia doesn't list one). The other parts sorta sounded like Porcupine Tree...specifically they reminded me of Russia on Ice.

2 Points

UMH: OSI - Microburst Alert

Hey this has words in it geez. I'm familiar with OSI but I haven't really listened to them enough to know a lot of songs, and this one I don't know. For the first half of this song I was feeling sorta blah towards it, but then the tension broke and it got all awesome.

1 Point

Kingshmegland: Bela Fleck & The Flecktones - Life Without Elvis

Ehhhh. Didn't really like this one. Sorry man :lol. Just really never been a big fan of the 'southern' sound at all.
