Sheesh the amount of cynicism in this thread is shocking. If you want to primarily use facebook for messaging and keeping in touch then do that. I don't like the layout much now and the news feed on the home page is kinda annoying, but other than that I use it loads for keeping in touch with people, arranging things, seeing and putting up photos, etc.
