The pathetic facebook status thread.
« on: June 28, 2009, 08:36:02 PM »
I would like to know if it is just me that this bothers. I can't stand seeing status updates where people just want attention or for someone to feel sorry for them. Whenever you come across a status that just irritates the shit out of you, post it here for all of us to ridicule.

I'll start....

" is waiting for someone 2 come on line..so i can talk..maybe?"

" okk so i need everybodyss help lol..my hairs mad long 4 this hott weather...should i leave it long (halfway down my back) or cut it shorrtt??? idk if i can take it anymore..but im scaredddd!!!"

That's a fairly hasty assumption, I would say.

"........"

STFU! I don't know why that sends me into such a blind rage but it does. Oh, and people who post terrible lyrics from terrible songs whenever they break up with someone.

This is an awesome thread idea

Facebook pisses me off SO much. But if I don't use it, I'll be out of the loop on everything. So instead of getting too mad, I just try to find humor in people's stupid status updates/wall posts/etc.

I don't see any good ones right now, but the ones that bother me the most are ones where people are like "GONNA GO TO A PARTY AND GET DRUNK!" ...ok, have fun. Glad to know you're pounding down all those wine coolers.

Another one was a week ago... "Illegal street racin, bbl". Right, and he updated this from his CELLPHONE. Thanks. That was really important. I'm glad you notified everyone of that. If you didn't, we'd never know how badass you are. Too bad there weren't any stray trees near by you coulda smashed into...

That isn't really fair; I think it's fair to say that most people would be excited for their wedding day.

I have no problem with the status updates, as long as they're not as lame as 'in the kitchen'.

The thing that annoys me, as came up on 5/8 earlier this week, is that a very large percentage of Facebook activity nowadays is people joining groups and doing quizzes. I could swear only a year ago, people spent far less time doing these and actually invested more effort in keeping in touch with each other.

I concur, although I have to say that with the way the News Feed is designed I rarely see much in the way of people joining groups. The quizzes have definitely gotten way out of hand, though, and while I try to block each one, the stream of unique ones never seems to end. Facebook is really going downhill, particularly in terms of the News Feed. I'd be a lot happier with Facebook as a whole if I had complete control over the content of my News Feed.

Which is a shame because Facebook is, in theory, so much more useful than Myspace.

It is. It was a great tool to keep in touch with those you went to high school, college... hell, even elementary school with. But now its become "I'm bored I'm gonna take a quiz about which color I am"

Heres a nice status update

EVERYONE on Facebook craves attention.   :hat

Seriously, I used Facebook for a few weeks around the time it first came out (~5 or 6 years ago I think).  I stopped using it for a lot of reasons.  I now have somewhere on the order of 600 unconfirmed friends (most of which are not even "friends", of course), and I still get emails about it to this day, even though I haven't used my account in 5 years.

I know just about everyone here probably disagrees with me, but I promise you, plenty of people have tried and failed to show me that Facebook has valid uses beyond narcissistic entertainment and identity theft.  I won't elaborate, because it would take forever (actually I had typed up an even longer rant giving some details, which I deleted  ).

-J

EDIT: I will say that I did enjoy using it at first to look up people I used to know a long time ago, and seeing what they were up to now.

Anyone who adds FML to the end of their status pisses me off.

And what sucks about the quizzes is that each is it's own application, so you can't block all of them...

My God, is it really that difficult to keep in touch with each other on an easy-to-use program? I see people doing quizzes on there all of the time, and yet they never want to keep in touch or respond. It's becoming impersonal, like Myspace has already become, all for the sake of "being fun."

As soon as facebook was opened to kids that weren't even highschool yet, it totally went to shit. Not to mention that my family tries adding me on a daily basis. I have denied my aunt 7 times now, she thinks I decline her as a joke or something.
