Nothing wrong with that, and I still like it quite a bit. As I said in review, some of the new things they tried with it worked well, but others didn't work for me personally.

I think that Bilateral is a better crafted album and I'd recommend it as a starting point for people curious about the band, but I still find myself enjoying Coal more.

For anyone who really likes both Coal and Bilateral, I would be very surprised if after a fair few listens you don't end up liking this album a lot. As I said, for me it takes most of the best features from each.

Really warmed up to 'The Price'. Great video too. Love the vocals, that sound like he found a nice balance between subtle and 'grand'. Awesome chorus, and the falsetto in the verses sounds so warm. Great production.

Rewind though.. that's some hardcore stuff. Definitely into it, rhythmically challenging track.. kinda difficult but the vibe is great.
Amazing black metal inspired ending too.

These guys are something else, really.  :metal

yeah me neither...

Really looking forward to this album though. Hearing ariich say that it takes the best elements of both Bilateral and Coal is really particularly encouraging for me.

Well, perhaps "favourite" elements as opposed to objectively "best", but yeah, I do love it.

I would imagine it's only in European countries where the album is out already. Should therefore be available in the UK on Monday and US on Tuesday.

Get my preorder today.

Third Law, The Flood (yes, the outro is awesome) and Moon are already among my favourite Leprous songs.
Not an easy album to digest, will take some more spins to form an opinion. Does seem to be a grower though.

Red is the most difficult song on this album and it's getting better and better at every listen. I couldn't stand the staccato notes on this track for the first four or five times I heard it and I didn't believe I could change idea about it, and I even finally really appreciate the intricate chorus. I thought it was only an interesting experimental song but not successful, and now it's one of my favourites.

Pixel is the most generic Leprous song I've heard... I hoped that the bonus track was something good that didn't fit with the album like Bury was for Coal.

After a few spins the album has grown on me immensely.
As of now, Within my Fence is the only song that doesn't do anything for me. Red and Down I don't dig quite as hard but the rest is :metal

I think Within My Fence is a short cool song, not one of my absolute favorite but still really good, like Cryptogenic Desires on Bilateral.
Down is my least favourite song, but it's an highlight for others. There's not a single bad song on this album  :)

Within My Fence is cool song, at least the chorus!

My least favourites are Slave, Lower and maybe Red. Favourites are The Flood and Triumphant.

My initial reaction is that they might have gone a bit too far with the jumpy rhythmic riff stuff. It works to a point, but beyond that it's just tiring. The Flood was probably my favorite track. Red was pretty cool once the drums came in and I could make some sense out of the weird rhythms. There were more cool moments, but don't remember them specifically after one listen.

Right now I like it less than Coal and Bilateral, but I imagine that this album needs a few more spins to sink in. I'm not sure how it holds up against TPS, since I'm not very familiar with that album either.

I agree with the above post. I found it very disappointing and initially also quite boring to listen to. Everything sounds the same and the percussive guitars get very tiring after a while. Rewind is by far the best track, the rest of the album has failed to impress me as of yet.

That was my reaction also at first but after several spins those polyrhythms (or whatever they are) are really the thing here. At first it felt really forced and every song sounded quite the same but now I have used to them and those really are interesting and groovy, the thing what I could say Leprous-sound.

Great to hear Rich. I think it's funny how people's preferences regarding the songs are so different on this album. I think most people think Rewind is a fantastic track and maybe the best on the album, but I think there are many differences in which tracks people find the worst. I think Red, Within My Fence and Pixel (the bonus track) are the weakest, but I've seen a lot of other opinions here. It's funny that your least favourite track is Moon, Rich, 'cause that's one of my favourites  :lol

I'm not a big fan of Rewind.

This album also suffers from Leprous' unfortunately reoccuring 'non great' lyrics and sometimes awkward phrasing. But that's on all the albums, so that no negative specific to this album.

But that said, The Flood is a wonderful track and I've listened to it maybe 5 or 6 times since yesterday. Great stuff.

The same happened for Coal, I've never seen so much opposite opinions for an album on every forum or review. Chronic is the best song for someone, the worst for others (the same for Contaminate Me, Foe or Coal). Someone dislikes all the first three songs, others prefers a lot more the songs from The Cloak to Echo... and there are even mixed opinions among those ones

After a few more listens, my initial thoughts still stand, but I do agree with ariich, this album is definetely a grower. There are a lot of tracks I enjoy far more now than I did at first listen. But there are still a few songs that don't have me convinced, but this is absolutely a good album.
