i heard one song off aeolia on youtube and thought it was pretty awesome as well.
anyone know how good the overall sound quality is for the demo?

It's actually very good, keeping in mind that it's supposed to be a demo. Not the quality of their albums but not the cringeworthy sound that's expected from a demo.

It's great to see a thread on these guys!  I was introduced to them by the InsideOut sampler this year... I was immediately impressed.  The singing definitely sets these guys apart in my opinion.  Not a lot of younger bands are stressing good clean vocals these day!  Let's hope Leprous inspires more bands to bring back awesome clean singing!

Couldn't agree more, Einar has one of the most distinctive vocals out there. I've read some completely different opinions on that matter though, even going as far him ruining the band's music.

Luckily those opinions are an insignificant minority compared to the positive praise the band has gotten. Still, it's completely normal to admit not being a fan of one's voice but implying he can't sing is just beyond ridiculous.

Also, two more weeks until I'll see them. :metal

Wow, really?  I didn't know some people felt that way about him.  I wonder what type of vocals those people envision on Leprous' stuff?  I guess I can see how the name Leprous might be misleading... maybe some people expected it to be a lot heavier?

In my opinion, these guys are trying to craft their own sound, which gets my respect.  So few bands today are trying to do their own thing.  It's like anybody who tries to sing clean these days is uncool!

Kept getting Leprous as a recommended artist from people who know about my interest in avant-garde metal and prog. Been meaning to check it out for a long while.

Just posting to say that, yes, Bilateral is still fucking amazing.  It has climbed its way up to the top of my favorite albums from last year.  Unbelievable.

I really need to get Tall Poppy Syndrome soon.

Ooooooh, that's some cool ass news. Being a huge fan of Ihsahn's solo work, having him produce outside work could be interesting. Bring it.

Time for a small bump, maybe the thread title can be adjusted for this?

Their next album 'Coal' will be out next month, with a European release on 20/05 and on 05/28 for North America.

Quote
Vocalist-keyboardist Einar Solberg describes the follow-up to 2011′s Bilateral as “more melancholic and darker.”

He explains: “By ‘darker’ I don’t mean more aggressive, but more severe. There’s still a big range in the dynamics, but no jumping between different moods within a song.

“I feel we are one step closer to a personal expression. Producers Heidi Solberg Tveitan and Vegard Tveitan, of Mnemosyne, helped us a lot with reaching the full potential of the songs.”

Right now they're announcing one date at the time for the European tour in support of Coal on their Facebook-page: Zelda

23.10 has GOT to be Belgrade but I am sad about not seeing Ørkenkjøtt with them if that is the case. But Blindead is tasty too.

Good stuff. The riff around the halfway point is really fucking tasty. Here's to looking forward to the rest of the album, even if it's looking like this will be the heaviest and most dynamic this album will be.
